flowerseller July 31, 2007 Share July 31, 2007 Yahoo weather says it's coming. Mid to high 90's this week into next. High demand for electricity means higher chance of a possible blackout. What if your A/C just plain goes on the fritz? Are you prepared? I refilled a new supply of gas and a spare can for the generator and checked to see it starts on 1 pull. I have 8 plastic milk jugs 3/4 full and frozen in the freezer down stairs that I can alternate into my sump to help keep the temp down. This technique is helpful in any hot situation if monitored properly. I also have 2 battery powered air pumps with extra batteries for night while the generator is off. We all hear these high heat/power failure horror stories so please have a "plan B" Got any other ideas to share? Good luck

extreme_tooth_decay July 31, 2007 Share July 31, 2007 (edited) Are those $100-150 generators on ebay any good? I got one that turned out to be crap. I wouldn't mess with it again. For me, I just have a computer UPS running my return pump and skimmer. It lasts an hour, which is as long as any power outage here ever lasts. In a pinch, I also have an inverter I can plug into my car's cigarette lighter and run my return pump and skimmer as long as my car has gas. tim Edited July 31, 2007 by extreme_tooth_decay
flowerseller July 31, 2007 Author Share July 31, 2007 I've seen them at Harbor Freight for under $200. Even it only got me thru for a 24hr period, it'd be worth it to me.

The peice of junk I got worked ok for 12 hours, then I stored it in my basement, where it sat for a week or so. Then one day I came down to my basement (where there are 2 devices with standing pilot lights 24/7) to discover the thing had dropped all it's gas somehow. I'm lucky my house didnt burn down. I still can't find the leak, im pretty sure there wasnt an animal chewing it or anything like that. tim

I like thier temp quesstimates better being a few degrees lower. Oh, and , ah, ........ thanks for giving away my secret to coolness. A creative fella can easily make a pair himself. Kinda like a DIY project you might like to host Craig. Have fun and see ya in the funny papers.
