Nick July 22, 2007 July 22, 2007 I'm moving so I'm upgrading to a 90gallon reef ready. I was contemplating going for the 90g Tech Series, which is pretty expensive at most places. I've heard everything ranging from $950... all the way to the best deal I've found so far which is $680. I don't want to say where yet, because the owner said he would give me that price to get a sale made. I'd disclose that if the owner tells me I can at some point. I've called all the usual suspects in the area, but does anyone have ideas for places to try calling? I'd be willing to travel a little if someone knows of a place that gives good deals. Thanks.
jason the filter freak July 23, 2007 July 23, 2007 What the devil is a Tech series and what makes it any better than a regular 90?
Nick July 23, 2007 Author July 23, 2007 Basically its an Oceanic tank that's reef ready, with some differences: 3 panels of glass are Starfire (low iron), back is painted black, black epoxy is used, its euro-braced, and other things. It's mostly unnecessary stuff, but looks REALLY good. Here's a reefcentral thread talking about it some with a few pics: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...hreadid=1105765
extreme_tooth_decay July 23, 2007 July 23, 2007 Those are super nice looking tanks. I usually see them at That Fish Place, which typically beats everyone else's prices on almost everything. I'd give them a call. It's a 2 hour drive, but well worth it. I usually stock up on RO filters, frozen food (bring a cooler), cleanup crew, etc. I hav seen them in the past at SuperPetz also. I wouldn't expect the price to be great there, but it can't hurt to give them a call. tim
Nick July 24, 2007 Author July 24, 2007 Thanks alot Tim! That's exactly what I was looking for, I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what deals I can get there. Nick
dandy7200 July 24, 2007 July 24, 2007 BRK sells them, you have to order it though. Super slick tanks and the matching stand is killer looking. Here is the super tricked out 70 Tech stand that was sitting in my living room for several months: Now it's sitting at BRK waiting for Byron to take it home (for several months).
AndrewB July 25, 2007 July 25, 2007 Other than the features that Nick mentioned, the two really nice things about this tank is that there is no center brace to impede light over the tank, and the overflow box is long and narrow and thus doesn't take a whole bunch of space away from aquascaping.
extreme_tooth_decay July 25, 2007 July 25, 2007 (edited) I've considered buying one a couple times, I like them a lot. They also have a nice overflow cover. FYI: I was at SuperPetz today buying trying to buy dry goods and admiring their aiptasia farm, and noticed they do have a 90 there. No price, as usual. And at SuperPetz I think you have to buy the stand also, which is more expensive than it is worth to me. I was surprised they didnt have R/O cartriges. At least Wally's did. tim Edited July 25, 2007 by extreme_tooth_decay
