scott711 July 19, 2007 July 19, 2007 (edited) Looking for steel H/I beams and trying to find a price/location for them... Edited July 19, 2007 by scott711
NRehman July 19, 2007 July 19, 2007 (edited) Scott, Not an expert, but you may want to give your local building materials supplier a call. I think Gallaghers is one in your area. You can also try Potomac Steel in Springfield...for pickup or delivery. I have bought some i-beams from them before. http://www.potomacsteel.com/ Also, further away, but ABC lumber in Arlington might have some. Nadir Edited July 19, 2007 by NRehman
fry_school101 July 19, 2007 July 19, 2007 I think what you are actually looking for is called a Wide Flange beam. . . you might try searching for that.
dandy7200 July 19, 2007 July 19, 2007 I get my steel at Potomac Steel in Springfield. I beams are sold in 20 foot lengths and they usually cut with their plasma for $10 a slice.
Carl July 20, 2007 July 20, 2007 Are you building a tank stand with the I-beams? Or perhaps reinforcing the floor for a large tank upstairs? -Carl

Carl July 20, 2007 July 20, 2007 I built one recently out of steel...inspired by Sanjay's design on R/C. Sanjay's thread on R/C In case you haven't seen it already. Potomac Steel in Springfield is a good local place to get the materials - I've purchases through them a few times.
davelin315 July 20, 2007 July 20, 2007 Carl! Get back to work! I'm catching up on being set up with you!
Carl July 20, 2007 July 20, 2007 Dave - I think you are passing me by...the only thing I've done over the past few months is purchase a Baracude pump off of Rebecca. Scott - Let me know if you need help moving the steel beams...they are not like moving a few wood 2x6's around. What size tank are you looking to support? -Carl

I got the idea from reading sanjays thread. I liked the idea of an open bottom.
