phisigs79 May 18, 2007 Share May 18, 2007 http://www.reefdiversity.com/DIYPage/DIY_H...toTypeBuild.htm Cost is around $10-12 each. Not bad huh? Anyone out there want to build some?
Gatortailale May 18, 2007 Share May 18, 2007 where you going to get the 85% reflective material that good reflectors are made of - and for the price you list of $10-12? They used "galvanized steel for this prototype (6$ for a 24" x 24" sheet)."
phisigs79 May 18, 2007 Author Share May 18, 2007 not sure really. They said they bought 85% reflective material. I can email the guy and see where he got the material

dandy7200 May 18, 2007 Share May 18, 2007 I have the CAD file of the plans if you guys want it. Take it to kinkos and get it scaled to size on heavy paper. Remember to call these "Luminhootchies" so no one gets their feathers ruffled.

Rascal May 18, 2007 Share May 18, 2007 What about using aluminum flashing, sold by the roll in the roofing section? Fairly cheap and looks pretty shiny to me.

My frag tank is made from that stuff and it works great. I made a jig to act as a metal break and it works rather well. I'm sure we could find someone with a real metal break. I might do a group bend on a Sunday afternoon at my house for this if there is interest.
phisigs79 May 18, 2007 Author Share May 18, 2007 I think its fairly cheap material as well. Who wants in? Chip PM sent your way!
dbartco May 18, 2007 Share May 18, 2007 I would consider, only if we use 95% reflective material, and not flashing. Chipper, you have a real break?
phisigs79 May 18, 2007 Author Share May 18, 2007 (edited) i wonder how many we could make with that 2x4 sheet of 95%? The sheets are 4 foir $149 plus free shipping which would been 8 reflector if they fit 2 to a sheet which comes out to $17.50 each and another 5-8 for mogul and bracket. So 95% reflectors are alittle more but for $22-25 each is a really good deal for what you get. Edited May 18, 2007 by phisigs79

flowerseller May 18, 2007 Share May 18, 2007 Doug Bug, If that's the hammered toned stuff, you might be better off with the flashing. What you might want to look for is spectral aluminum.

jason the filter freak May 25, 2007 Share May 25, 2007 An idea...? http://www.hydroponics.net/c/54 "I was able to find this description from rplastics, the don't carry the metallized polyester but hopefully Mylar is Mylar... Mylar polyester film or sheet is a flexible, exceptionally strong and durable film with properties that make it most suitable for many industrial applications. Mylar polyester sheet and film is inert to water and acts as a moisture barrier as well as being unaffected by oils, greases and most aromatics. Even under attack by these conditions, Mylar polyester sheet or film will retain its superior properties and remain tough, clear and flexible from minus -100°F (-73.33° C) to over 300°F (148.88° C), and since Mylar polyester contains no plasticizers, it will not become brittle or yellow with age under these or other normal conditions." Any one have a thought on this, am I a smart cost saver or just misguided and missing some obvious point again?
flowerseller May 25, 2007 Share May 25, 2007 I used that stuff when I made a hood for my 110. I did not last long for me becomming translucent in a 9 month period with t-12 bulbs. Back then they were not using internal reflectors yet.
Guest TimG June 4, 2007 Share June 4, 2007 Solar Tubes can be purchased at Lowes and flattened out. This is a 95% reflective material. Google solar tube, there are many different brands, Sun Tek is the brand I used. Another option you might want to look into is http://www.mcmaster.com/ search for part number 8202K51 Tim

You can even find solar tube at HD.... or was it Lowes? Look in the skylight area for it. I purchased it one time, but realized that I wasn't going to do anything with it and returned it. Good luck you to everyone.
