Guest vatbrew March 1, 2007 Share March 1, 2007 what do you all think of the "ends" of the tank? I have the T5's centered so only the 6 foot actinics shine on the last 6" of each side of the tank.
phisigs79 March 1, 2007 Share March 1, 2007 IMO you need more blue but i like 14k MH
Guest vatbrew March 1, 2007 Share March 1, 2007 I swapped out a blue + for the 11k. It was too much blue for me.
Folta March 1, 2007 Share March 1, 2007 I like it. Ha, you can now see where you got water down the back of your tank and the background 'stuck' to the back! =) I don't think it's 'not blue enough', but then again I also only have 3 x 250w 10k XM bulbs over my tank with no actinic at all.... SDBDRZ March 1, 2007 Share March 1, 2007 Looking good, I like it. Maybe a little more blue but thats just personal preference. As for the ends of the tank, how high are the T-5's above the water?

As for the ends of the tank, how high are the T-5's above the water? 4.5 - 5", is that ok? Too much, too little? SDBDRZ March 1, 2007 Share March 1, 2007 4.5 - 5", is that ok? Too much, too little? No thats about what mine are however it is generally a good idea to start new lighting higher and gradually lower it over a week or so. I probably would have went to about 12" and lowered it an inch a day til I got to the height I wanted. You can also shorten the photoperiod and gradually increase it over a week or so until you reach the photoperiod you want. Its a good idea to acclimate your corals to the new lighting in this way to avoid having them bleach, etc.

Guest vatbrew March 1, 2007 Share March 1, 2007 I have to keep an eye on that toadstool. It's growing FAST. It is the offspring of Tang-away's 45 lb monster.
lanman March 2, 2007 Share March 2, 2007 I have to keep an eye on that toadstool. It's growing FAST. It is the offspring of Tang-away's 45 lb monster. Dibs on the first baby! I like that toadstool. Although - unless I get a bigger tank, I'll have to lop it's head off once in a while and everybody ends up with one. Tang-away's would have nearly filled my 45. Why does the LFS never have any nicely colored sarcophyton's? bob

rooroo March 2, 2007 Share March 2, 2007 Oh, i see what you mean about the "dead" ends. You can stagger the lights a bit, or just let the ends of the tank be a bit darker and have that as the place that you put your low light corals.
sjm817 March 3, 2007 Share March 3, 2007 Looks nice. I like the color much better than the pink VHO look.
