  1. I have a 2 bulb 36" T5 retrofit that I can donate. It has 6500K bulbs as I was using it for a fuge light. Its a good T5 system with Ice Cap individual reflectors. I also have a 48" T8 triple T8 fixture.
  2. BTW, the Water Blaster pumps are internal (submersible) pumps even though they like many submersibles, they can be run externally. Submersible pumps have wet rotors and will add heat to the water whether run external or internal. As above, people make more of this than what it really is. Its a small amount of heat unless you use a big high wattage pump.
  3. That article is a bit overly pessimistic. I agree in point, but not with the numbers. I've measured 450 GPH through a RR overflow with a 1.25" Durso and it worked just fine and still had more capacity left. I didn't want to get into the open channel Vs full siphon discussion too deeply. I see it has been discussed a lot since. My point was a dual overflow Reef Ready tank has nowhere near the capacity to handle a 4300 GPH pump. If you go full siphon with a Bean or Herbie, then the capacity increases considerably. If the OP is still looking for an external, a Panworld 50PXX is one to check out.
  4. 1" Reef Ready overflow (I assume that is what you are using) is good for about 600 GPH X 2 = 1200 GPH max unless you do a full siphon setup. There is no point in using a return pump that far exceeds that amount. In theory and sometimes in practice, dialing back the pump will reduce power consumption, but its not linear. Dialing back a pump 50% does not reduce power use by nearly that amount.
  5. Hi Jan. You saw it when you got the ATO, but didn't really look at it. It was hung over my fuge. The retro kit is just mounted to a board, but of course can be mounted any way you need. Pic of the ballast Pic of the whole unit
  6. What no one uses T5 any longer? I have no use for this setup (maybe a shop light)? Make me an offer!
  7. Last item I have that needs a new owner. 2 bulb 36" T5 retrofit. Has individual Ice Cap reflectors. Bulbs are 6500K as I used this for a fuge light. $50 or any reasonable offer. I wont ship. Pick up in Ashburn. Thanks!!
  8. Everything gone except for T5s. Thanks everyone and all the best in the new year!
  9. ***T5 Lights are the only thing left*** Hi everyone. I believe this is OK to post here in this circumstance. I got out of the hobby awhile ago and sold off most of the major items. It looks like I wont be getting back in so I have quite a bit of stuff that is taking up space and I'd like to see it go. Everything is priced from reasonable to very cheap or free. I'm not going to go through the time to take pics of everything. If you need more info about something PM me and I'll provide it. Everything is pickup only in Ashburn. Lighting: 2x 36" T5HO retrofit. 10. I recently tore down my system (will do another in the future) that had a basement sump. I had it running for many years. It was a 180 display with a 75G sump and 30G fuge. Here are a few tips Put the sump up on a bench. Less pumping height, easier to work on, easy for a gravity drain for water changes. Spa flex for the drains and the return worked very well. Very easy to do the plumbing runs. I cut a rectangular hole in the floor that a heating register can drop into in the event you remove the system. I never had any humidity issues at all. I found heating the system especially in the Winter took a lot of electricity. A water cooled pump is not a bad idea. Heat from the return pump can be a benefit. I prefer externals, but if you want to use a Mag12/18 it may not be a bad idea because of the above. If you cant decide between the two, they are the same pump except for the impeller. Get the 12 and if you need more flow, get the 18 impeller for it.
  11. Wow Shaun, very sorry to see you are having such trouble! Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Sometimes a Bulkhead can fail because the nut strips out. The nut on most bulkheads fits kind of loose. If it got bumped, it might have loosened up some. I've never used FWE, but the advice you are getting here sounds correct.
  12. Looks nice. I like the color much better than the pink VHO look.
  13. I thought I saw a post a while back about a club PAR meter. Does one exist? If so, how would I go about getting use of it? Thanks!
  14. I like 2'x2'xL tanks. 120, 150, 180, 240. Tall tanks are hard to work with and hard to light.
