  1. Ok, well I am running 10K MH right now, so a big Check for that. As far as the VHOs, I did a quick search and it looks like retro kits for them are more expensive for them than T5s, not to mention use more wattage. Will this be a factor in the long run?
  2. As far as having a ballast, I was looking at buying the T5 Retro kit they have at BRK. And then with the PAR, I would probably only overlap the Actinics a total of 4 hrs with the MHs. 2hrs in the morning and 2hrs before the MHs shut off for the night. Figure I'm gone during the day so it doesn't need to stay pretty. HELP!! More thoughts?
  3. Ok, so like everything else in this hobby, one view differs from the next. So I'm looking for various opinions on VHO vs T5 when it comes to adding actinics. I am currently running 2 x 250 MH in my tank and feel I am missing out on a lot of the different ranges of colors you can get from Actinics. Tax returns are coming in soon and so far I've been shown some very convincing Par meter readings from John at BRK that definitely have me heavily tilted on the T5 side. I mean you can't even compare the par readings because there is that much of a difference, not to mention amount of electricity used (after using MHs, saving electricity would be a plus). But recently I read in another forum that you receive much better color from VHO actinics than T5. Is this the experience from most or just a select few?
  4. I have 2x 250 MH in an enclosed hood over my 75Gallon, I find that as long as I keep my house under 75degrees I rarely see my heat go over 82. And that's usually only because I'm not running my fans as of late. Unfortunately I haven't broken into the heat regulator technology yet so I usually vary btw 4 or 5 degrees during the day and night. That being said, everything in my tank is still happy and growing very well. But this forum sparks another question for me, I'll start another thread so I don't hijack. Hope this helps.
  5. Have not tested my par yet but would be more than willing to buy these again if a group buy is on the horizon. Phisigs?????
  6. I'm interested in purchasing on the 24th, depending on location.
  7. I'm running 2 x 250 MH (10k, just switched to 14k this week) over my 75G...will be adding 2 T5 soon for Actinic... But I love my MHs. I've had some crazy growth in my tank and have only had it set up for roughly a year now. My electricity hasn't spiked since the upgrade to MH but I'll probably give all T5s a chance in the next tank I set up. Just so I can experience both sets of lightings. Overall, I don't think you can go wrong with either. Definately prefer the diy kits though. Ability to customize is priceless.
  8. Hate to tell yall, I just got back from BRK and got first crack! Yall are in for a treat...BRK is pretty well stocked. Luckly for yall I didn't have a ton of money to buy all the good stuff.
  9. I'm actually really interested in finding this out as well. It'd be nice to tell people what frags I have in my tank instead of them telling me. Kinda sad when others can name more of my frags than I can!
  10. Quote from Tommy Boy Ted Nelson, Customer: But why do they put a guarantee on the box? Tommy: Because they know all they solda ya was a guaranteed piece of s***. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me. Bottom line...buy reliable and QT!!!

  16. Hey guys, I'm a still new in the game so have very little to nothing to trade. I don't know if I'm too late on this post for the weekend, but I'm told that there are members that don't mind getting some newbies started with free frags at these meetings. I'll take anything anyone is willing to give. Please PM me if you are interested...I will be more than willing to give out frags when I get stuff growing to the point that it's possible to do so. Thanks in advance.
  17. See there is a explanation for everything. Thomas is good people... I will definitely make the trip out to Wally's!
  18. darn, you all are harsh today. I personally have never been to Wally's, so I have no opinion either way. It is nice to know that if I were planning on buying any of these fish mentioned, that I should just look elsewhere due to the current prices at Wally's. That being said, it doesn't mean I'm not going to make a trip out there for some other fish/frag/equipment. It will be difficult to continue growing such a usefull site if every non-member is treated like their opinion doesn't count if we don't agree. This group and you fine people are too valuable to us newbies and I for one am fortunate to have so many opinions to sift through and help determine how I will set up my tank and where I will buy my fish/equipment from. On that note: SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL FISH STORE!!!
  19. How are you planning on using your jeebo lights under your hood w/ Halides? I only ask because I'm in a simular situation. I have 4X65 PC and look to make a hood w/ halides. But figured I'd have to buy extra lights to put in the hood to replace my PC.
  20. it sucks that you've had that experience, whether at Marine Scene or anywhere else. Although I haven't had too much trouble with Marine Scene (the people that work there have been very helpfull with me)....I've always had a problem with their prices. I don't know how else might be available to take frags, but being as your are in Gainesville area (I'm not too far away) I know the people at the Cozy Clownfish in Manassas were trying to buy xenia off of me. I'm almost ready to frag, but when I do, I believe for all the help I've received from this forum I will offer half to members at a good price and the rest to the stores. How much has Marine Scene been buying your frags for?
  21. I think that's the same guy that hands out the shrimp, lobsters and scallops isn't it?
  22. Shoot, for that price, I'll set you up with a 90gallon tank!!! Well over $2k.
  23. OOPS, I didn't mean to start anything. Why are there no smiley faces with peace signs when you need them.
  24. It's a trick!! Don't believe him!!! Just messing...although not a bad idea. HMMMM.
  25. My xenia started off as 2 stalks and has now split to about 4 or 5 and is splitting again. This is all w/in probably 2 months time. I pumped water out so that I could move my tank and when I pumped it back in the xenia looked like it just passed out and it was a little bumpy too. It usually stands a good 4" up in my tank. After about 20 min, it was back to normal again. I'm currently running PC 4x65w and am interested to see what they do once I put my two 250w MH up. Very finiky creatures.
