QT is not only about deseases. It's about reducing stress of a fish getting into a new environment. You feed them, you make sure they are happy and confident then release them into display when lights are out. John has a good QT system, I do not question it.

I have the same camera. You should work with it on a manual settings. Choose macro setting. Forst, out something white in the tank and choose "set white ballance", then set it on that white. Then choose exposure time and set it to shorter exposure. try again. Use tripod. Works for me.

You can use gorgonian skeleton as it's smooth. Why not to plant lots of macro algea? My horses love to clinch on those.

My mandarins do not eat frozen but eat black worms happily. So I supplement them sometimes. Could be another option.
