1. Fueled by misconceptions, misinformation, and even showmanship, the environmental debate rages in the media and in places like this forum (as it should). One side likes to quote Rush Limbaugh, who paints Vice President Al Gore and friends as "tree huggers"; the other charges "rape of the Earth." As a person who is a long time scuba diver, reef hobbyist, to the right (politically) and more importantly as a Christian who feels a responsibility to be a steward to Gods creation, I have a few thoughts. Even though I believe most of the eco-movement is politically motivated, I agree with them on one main point. We should not injure the planet. However all of modern life does that. So we have a conflict. Do we move to the mountains and live off of wild berries, do we give up our cars, our air conditioning or our deodorant. All of these things do damage to the planet. Modern houses, cars, air travel, clean clothes, medicine and even the soap we use to prevent disease causes damage to the earth. Most of the eco-danger reports I have read, took out a few trees for their publication. What are we to do??? First, we weed thru the issues to get rid of the junk science and get to the things we know to be true We can manage the process's of our life. We turn the air-conditioning just a few degrees warmer. We put on a sweater in the winter instead of turning up the heat. We think of the small things that can help. We put our kids in the little league that is closest to the house. We try to plan our daily travel to save a few miles. Next We spend more to buy better products that last longer or are more efficient (I live in an RV that gets 14 MPG and I probably use less gas in a year than I did when I owned two cars). What else can we do? Public Action Reef Hobbyist have recently begun to be more aware of their need to be politically active. We need to extend that activity to policies that influence our care of creation. It is important to shape the way our governments and economies work. We need to bring the full meaning of Planetary stewardship into the public arena. Here are three principles for wider involvement.
2. The concept of global warming came from a science group working for The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. They used a computer model that tells us that Global warming is attributable to human activities" The increased amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases (GHGs) are the primary causes of the human-induced component of warming. They are released by the burning of fossil fuels, land clearing and agriculture, etc. The Earth's average near-surface atmospheric temperature rose 1.1
3. I have added an all new forum for product reviews. It is not for "how good or bad is a company" but is a place for product review (how good is a reefmaster 2000 widget) Discussion is good and if you have a product you love or hate post it there. Please use it for all hardware disscusion.
4. Craig is correct The PHP system used in a lot of forum software had a security flaw that was discovered by hackers. They used it to download a Trojan program to use your outlook address book. It did not steal your info it only used it to send email. if you download the updates to your virus protection software you will wipe it off of your computer instantly. None of your information was compromised. I have been a little out of loop the last few days but have been on with Invision at least 3 times a day. They have fixed their security issue that allowed all of their boards to get hacked. They loaded the newest version of the board and then I loaded the database of our posts and users back on to the board. Many of the forums effected will be weeks rebuilding but we got lucky I had down the safety back up a few hours before the crash. We lost the skin to the board as we now have a new version. This will take a few days of spare time to get back all of the appearance and buttons. I am glad that this is resolved while I

6. I am greatfull for all of the help I will contact everybody next week to start the pickups at your convience. After this I think I am going to set up a grow out system just for the teachers that I am helping... that way I can frag some stuff out of my tank and any time any one want to donate to it maybe order a few things that are easy to grow and keep a lot of it on hand for the times that I need it. Sort of a frag bank for science teachers. Maybe a 90 gal system would do it..

12. they are ok if you Q-tank the fish before you add them to you system
13. I gave up on all of the hassle and switched to Tahitian Blend from brine shrimp direct Tahitian Blend is a combination of Nannochloropsis, Tahitian Isochrysis, Tetraselmis, and Pavlova Instant Algae concentrates. An inclusion of NatuRose astaxanthin (Haematococcus sp.) spray-dried micro-algae provides natural pigments for color enhancement in marine invertebrates. It is claimed to contain a food grade cryopreservative to prevent freezing and lysing of the algae cells when kept below freezing temperatures. Therefore, the paste remains liquid when frozen and can be kept for several months without losing its nutritional value. They also sell a Frozen Rotifer product Rinsed and packed in sterile water in a convenient cube pack or flat pack! I don't breed fish I just feed all of this stuff to my tank and I have had pretty good results.
14. I think that if were to go with a tank as large as the 24 I would jusj buy a 29 All glass and build my own hood. The cost of a 24gal is $249.00. For just a little more you could build the system with skimmer and a small MH system
15. I keep a mated pair of Ocellaris Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris)Indo Pacific A mated pair of Three Stripe Damselfish (Dascyllus aruanus)Fiji a small school (6) of Blue/Green Reef Chromis (Chromis viridis) Indonesian, 1 Sailfin Tang (Zebrasoma veliferum)Coral Sea/Fiji, Tahiti, Indo Pacific 1 Yellow Tang - Hawaii (Zebrasoma flavescens)Hawaii 1 Royal Gramma Basslet (Gramma loreto)Caribbean 1 Yellow Watchman Goby (Cryptocentrus cinctus)Indo-Pacific paired with a Tiger Pistol Shrimp (Alpheus bellulus)
16. I am in the process of switching to a all LED system. It has the par and point source effect of 100-150 MH and a very solid moonlight built in. Using a new super high output led the designer of this system has achieved a SPS usable system for about $200. I will post pictures as soon as I am up.
17. Doc It was awsome to see the place. I want to really thank you for allowing us a pre-opening visit. As a long time customer I want to also thank you for all of the time you have taken to come to our meetings. I know that as your biz grows that may not always be possibly, but we will always consider you a part of WAMAS. Keep up the good work and I know we all wish you great success. With the internet so full of fly by night crooks, a dealer with ethics (Like You) is a great asset to the hobby. ]]]wave
18. Here is a link to the ones I have built. DIY Eductors
19. To Make it Easier for the Membership People here is a link Fill out the small form and we will fix it quickly.
20. I have used them in the past and they do work but.... He was right you need a good sized pump to really see a differance. I dont think it would hard to make them. The principal that causes an eductor to work is pretty simple. The fast moving water is lower in pressure than the surrounding water causing the surrounding water to get pulled along with the faster moving water. This is occuring around the entire eductor so the total volume is increased many times. I will see if I can find a DIY link to make one.
