  1. Yeah, some people use that. It seems like they only have huge (4x8'?) sheets, I just need strips for the sides. And, aren't the sheets pretty expensive?
  2. Suppose something like a large grain of sand got between the tank and stand that I didn't know about. This could make a wobble point/point load. If there was something rigid, but squishy, between them, the material could squish around the obstruction. Think of a fat person laying face down on a softball. Their back is still as flat as without the softball, the baseball has been absorbed into the "material". I'm not trying to level an unlevel surface, I'm trying to provide for relief of small irregularities in what may be an uneven surface, either tiny imperfections in the surface itself, or anything that may get in there. Even with a level surface, there may be places I could slide a piece of paper between the tank and stand, and the stand is therefore not properly supported. I want something to squish into those tiny voids.
  3. I had seen someone online talking about using the play tiles. They seem like a good idea. The only window air conditioner foam sealer I know of is just foam and not rubber and way too flimy/squishy.
  4. They aren't perfect, and never were...but they are clearly way better than stealths. I should make a new "Why I don't like stealths" with all the updated posts such as the one you have referenced...I still can't find ANY similar posts for EJ...but I believe they exist...just in much smaller number. It is like driving a Yugo when a Mercedes is the same price.
  5. The self leveling goo is an interesting idea, but wouldn't help me...my stand is level. I done built it that way. I want something the tank can squish into. I would worry about the self leveling stuff cracking, also. Even with a thick-ish coat, there is a lot of weight on it. I am torn between duct tape, peel and stick tile, and now sand. Unfortunately, I've glued/screwed a second 2x4 on the inside rim of my stand, so it would be hard for me to make the sand trough that way now. I might be able to work it, though. My stand is almost at that point now, I better decide soon.
  6. Interesting idea. With a typical 2x4 stand, it would be easy to make the lip to hold the sand, just slap another 2x4 to the one on the rim, a little higher. Put tank on, shake/rattle it a little...people use sand to level stone steps and such
  7. I'm just funnin ya...but I have never owned one. Why would I You are one of the lucky ones. Buy a lottery ticket while the gettin is good. I am trying to provide a valuable public service by pointing out that there are hugely more references to stealth heaters failing available than jager (way more than can be accounted for by market share IMO).
  8. That is how I usually do it. This time I want something that is a little squishy in there just to even out tiny irregularities, grain of sand, etc. Figures you would like the ghetto option I think it would work well...but I do like the vinyl tile idea. They have just a little bit of give to them. Anyone else use anything different? I know people use styrofoam, but I don't care for it.
  9. Wondering if I should this time. I know some people use styrofoam, rubber, etc...what do you use, and where did you get it? I think I'd like to use something like rubber. I don't like styrofoam. I don't jhave any particular reason I want to do it, the stand is straight and level, I just prefer to have a bit of cushion. I was thinking about stacking up a few (many) levels of duct tape. thanks
  10. Here is a thread about the mesh wheel mod, with user experiences and step by step instructions with pics: LINK
  11. FWIW: Tim has never owned a stealth heater (I've never set myself on fire with napalm either). I has the same (green jager) heater for something like 15 years, then bought another one when I broke it. I do like to mention my dislike for stealth heaters though. Here is a thread about them everyone should read: LINK
  12. I tried to move a tank once that was filled with water and it broke (I think it was a 20L). I think the water just had too much inertia...the glass tank moved, but the water did not. Maybe if it moves very slowly it might work, but I wouldn't mess with it again. I would definitely use acrylic if I did try it again, even though I hate acrylic, this is an application that makes sense for it.
  13. That is what I would try. Try your heater first. especially if it is a stealth. Wise plan.
  14. I had a G3 on my 125+55+40. Worked great, but I did have a giant fuge that did a lot of work also. I would think a G5 would be plenty for your 240.
  15. Rub it in... Still no power here.
  16. Power still out here. Bah.
  17. I think the larger pieces are chunks of LR that broke off over time. That tank had all southdown in it (300 lbs), plus 1 or 2 bags of that araga-live stuff
  18. The last piece I bought was about 40x60, I think it was 1/4" but not positive. I know they talked me into thicker stuff when I got there. Cost around $60 as I recall. I had them cut it to my dimensions. I used it to frame this puzzle:
  19. Here is my old guy:
  20. My favorite has always been a diamond goby. Beautiful fish, constantly sifting sand...sand is always pure white...they have always eaten PE mysis to supplement for me.
  21. I bought a couple big chunks from them about 6 months ago.
