  1. Thanks Dave.....great tips..... I will be using all of the same LR I have in the 55 for the 125. My 2 30gs are already established with their own LR so I just have to do normal acclimating. I change the water at the same time and keep them the same temp so it shouldn't be a problem. I figure I'll move my Picasso into the main 30g with my 2 Percs and then the 2 Maroon Clowns and Yellow Tang will go into the frag tank which has no fish in there. Both are up, been up and have plenty of LR in them. Scott
  2. Yeah....I know I'm going to have to let it cycle. I just figured with the same LR, DSB and water from the 55g my time for cycle might be lower? Of course, there is no set time frame for a cycle. Some cycle early, some late. I was really more curious what others have done when doing the same thing. What experiences they had and pitfalls they found.
  3. I'm about to begin upgrading my 55g to a 125g. My 55g has been setup for almost 9 years so I am thinking that it would be more beneficial to use the current DSB. Here was my first thoughts. Did I miss anything? 1. Move my fish to the (2) 30g tanks that I have. These are too small for them but should suffice for a week or so. 2. Drain the 55g and store in containers. 3. Move the 55g and setup the 125g. 4. Transfer the DSB from the 55g to the 125g. 5. Add new sand, maybe .5" - 1" on top of the original DSB in the new 125g. 6. Move the LR from the 55g to the 125g. 7. Fill the 125g with the water saved from the 55g and new water mixed the night before. 8. Let sit and do its things. 9. Test constantly and once I'm confident the levels look good move the fish into the 125g. 10. Add new LR once cured. I was wondering who has done upgrades like this before and what lessons learned you had come across? Of course...I'll be taking pictures of the entire ordeal!!!! Thanks Scott
  4. ......
  5. How much do you want to spend?
  6. I have only bought a few things from them but I can attest to the customer service issues. I have been in there multiple times where I'd walk the whole store two or three times and nobody would ask if I needed anything. I could see if they were all waiting on other customers but that wasn't the case. Every time I go in with the expectation of getting something but the last three times I've walked out with nothing because of that. To me, three strikes and you're out.
  7. Okay, so who has the sure fire way or getting rid of it? I have some in my frag tank and want to take care of them before they get out of hand. Thanks
  8. 10pm - 6am for me. Almost the same as when the display lights are off.
  9. Pat, We're sorry to hear that you feel that way about the club as a whole. We're sure you would understand the reasoning for the post being moved once the whole story is out. We, like you, was a bit hesitant about joining the club because we live out in Western VA, which is about an hour or more away from the majority of gathers and happenings. In fact, we have yet to make it to a tank tour or meeting but are hoping that changes soon. Luckily we have managed to meet a few very nice people which in itself would be worth the $20 ten times over. We won't even get into the $100s of dollars that have probably been saved from helpful advice and local trading/selling. It is well worth it in our eyes and we've only experienced a small portion of what it has to offer. We hope that you change your mind and become part of the club. Scott & Brandi
  10. Thanks...I've been looking at the 100mm Canon lens but I just don't know if I'm ready to throw $600 down for it. I know its well worth it but was kinda curious what others might be using or have heard.
  11. Does anyone use a Canon Digital Rebel SLR for taking macro shots of their coral? If so, I'm curious what lens(s) and setting you utilize for the best results. Scott
  12. There you go...starting the great debate yet again.... Personally I love the T5s and haven't found anything that I can't keep, but I have space and temperature considerations to factor in. That's what led me in the T5 direction. I would say it would depend really on you and what you plan on keeping. This is a huge debate and I personally don't think you'd make a bad decision going with either but you'll find some that disagree. I just know what I've found to be true in my systems. Scott
  13. I'll second what Chip said about trading you whatever you like. Just let me know... Welcome to the reefing world....
  14. I've got a small 10g fuge underneath my 30g display. Just curious what lights people have picked up and used easily from Lowes or HD for the fuge? Thanks
  15. Sweet....
  16. Same here.... :D PMs have been resent....
  17. Jacob...thanks I have both of the Caps and may grab some of the digi from ya. I'll let you know...
  18. You got PM....
  19. Has anyone done their own auto-topoff system. I have a 30g with the skimmer and fuge in the cabinet below, so space is a huge issue.
  20. Hi all... I'm loving the montipora and want to add a few more to my tank. Anyone have frags, or soon will have frags of any of the following: Superman Sunset Rainbow Morning Star Pokerstar Or others...Interested in some cool looking digis as well... Thanks
  21. :D That's my question.....I use IO and do 10% changes per week. Other than that, I really do nothing else. Are my other numbers okay? Oh, BTW....two different test kits....Salifert...
  22. My Mag is steadily around 1700. It's been that way for about 6 months now. I was wondering if I should try to lower it and if so, what's the best method. Temp 81 Salinity 1.026 Nitrate 5 Nitrite 0 Ammonia 0 Calcium 400 Alk 4
  23. Yep, I finally pulled the trigger and upgraded the lights on my 30g from PC to T5, and all I can say is WOW!!! I'm hooked. Thanks BlueRibbonKoi!!!! I'll get some pics up soon...before and afters....
  24. That's what is weird, I'm not adding anything....it's confusing me because I do nothing but 10% water changes every week with IO. I have a Seachem test kit, but I just bought that. I had another test kit which I don't remember them name off the top of my head ,but that was reading the same. Exactly the reason why I bought a second. It gets stranger. I have a 10g frank tank that I use the same pre-mixed water for changes and the readings are right on the money.... Just doesn't make sense...
  25. Thanks Chip.... I've got 6.3 on the Alk and 1650 on Magnesium....All others are right on the money...
