  1. I started with G3 Pros, and now is G4 Pros. I'd say it's well worth the switch, the new lens on G4 Pros make a huge difference. In short, G4 Pros solve the LED's hot spots problem, but the shimmering look is still a pain to some people (which can be solve by a diffuser, but you will have to sacrifice the intensity). Yes sir, I'm running AB+ and ramp it up to 100% brightness. My highest spot is around 450-475 and the other spots are around 350, even my sand bed has over 200 (my LPS didn't like it, lol). Honestly, it depends on what corals you're keeping and the placement. IME, T5s alone don't give me a satisfying result, G4 Pros are good enough but I'm thinking about adding some T5s supplement to see how it looks.
  2. Yes, technically, you can. Just out of curiosity, which ATO are you using? My Smart ATO is a bit annoying but it never dumps excessive water in my tank. You can try this: Set On If Condx4 > 36 then ON If Condx4 < 34 then OFF Remember, salinity also relies on your temp, that's why configuring ATO base on salinity is not strongly recommended unless you can keep a perfectly stable temp in your tank.
  3. Did you let the pump dry or wash it again with rodi or tank water? I always consider tap water contaminated (at least in my area, tds is always 150-160). For future references, I believe temp between 76-84 is ok for a reef tank as long as it doesn't swing like crazy. Also, heater's thermostat usually do not work very well. That's why it's important to use temp controller (such as apex system). Your pH at 8.0 is totally fine. Like I said, stability is more important than numbers. Corals and fishes actually could adapt to different conditions better than we thought. The instabilities are the most common reasons for deceased livestocks. But if you want to have a desired pH at 8.3-8.4, you can use CO2 scrubber.
  4. Couldn't agree more with Tom & Brian, a lot of things can cause RTN for SPS: light, nutrients, contaminants, temp swing, alk swing...etc.. In your case, we probably could cross lightning out of the problem. Your AI Prime only use 21W and it's 13" over the tank so I highly doubt that lightning was the problem. May I ask how did you do the pump maintenance? Also, like Brian said, your tank looks new base on the look of the rock, it could also be something leeching out from the rock if not properly treated. I would recommend you to run carbon and polyfilter then do 15-20% wc every few days to see how it goes.
  5. Probably not, the vivid rainbow I have always started out as a brown frag. The color only picked up when it became a mini colony. But it kinda hard to judge under blue. Do you have any actinic pic?
  6. Pros: great growth & color, a healthy and balance system with beneficial bacteria. Eliminated the need of doing weekly water change. Cons: a lot of works: daily dosing, shaking. Expensive. Just like Lowefx said, start everything from 1/2 of the recommended amount. Also adjust the flow of the zeovit reactor to half or less when first introduce to the tank. And you need to closely watch for nutrients level. You might need to feed the fish a bit more at first start to avoid the sudden drop in nutrients (which can lead to rtn).
  7. You could try this one: https://www.amazon.com/Hikari-Usa-AHK25312-Seaweed-3-52-Ounce/dp/B006JG2SFO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1524696360&sr=8-1&keywords=hikari+seaweed+pellets That's a pretty fast sinking pellets, even my most finicky fishes love it. I'm training my emperor angel to eat pellets, he wouldn't touch the NLS or OmegaOne but he goes crazy for the Hikari
  8. You need to train them to eat pellets when you get back. crush some nls, omega one or the hikaru pellets, mix a little bit of that with your frozen food. Then increase the amount slowly. Omce they got used to the taste, start mixing whole pellets with your frozen food. If they still don't eat, let them starve for 2 days. After that, they will eat every single pellet you drop in the tank :D.
  9. I run mine AB+ at 95%.... That's why I can't keep leptos in my DT :(.
  10. Thanks guys ^_^. Now I just need to find a way to get rid of the Kenya Tree <-- rookie mistake :D. Kinda tired of removing them manually :|
  11. Hello WAMAS, I've been into this hobby for about 1.5 years (same goes for being a WAMAS member), so I think it's time for me to celebrate my tank's 1 year anniversary by introducing it to WAMAS. Shamefully, I started this hobby by an awkward way, was scammed to buy a 100G AIO for $1000 =)). After 1 month with that 100G, I realized my mistake and got myself a 72x18x27 G tank. Unfortunately, shortly after that, I once again realized that I did not like that dimension at all. And the stand was ugly as H-E-double hockey sticks with just a frame, no door, no skin whatsoever. So, I sit down, and made a plan to build a sump and start everything over once again. Luckily, when I was about to go to New York to pick up a 180G tank (I know, I'm crazy, right? To go all the way to NY and pick up a tank :D, but when I want to do something, it's just hard to resist the feeling :D), I found a 72x24x30 220G tank from a WAMAS member just a few days before my birthday and a few hours to go to NY. To be honest, I made some mistakes with this tank too, but I guess I'm kinda happy with it. I probably stick with it until I save enough to have a 900G or 1200G. I'm still looking for ideas for my future tanks, so I'm open to all feed back and experience sharing ^_^. So, here goes my baby: Tank size: 220 Gallons Dimension: 72x24x30 Equipment: - Sump: 75 Gallons custom built. It was my first mistake to pick the 75G tank to build a sump, it was a bit too high for me, it's a pain to remove the skimmer and it's impossible to put my Bubble King in :( (0.5" too big ). I will either build a higher stand for my next tank or just buy a sump for $1200 (honestly, I think it's a bit too much to spend that much for a sump) - 2 Gyre 250. I started with 2 MP40QDs but did not like the flow pattern so I switched to Gyre. - Skimmer: I used a Bubble Master 250 with 2 Sicce PSK-1000 pumps. I just switched to Deltec 2060 today since it's smaller and easier to maintain for me. - Calcium & Alkalinity: I used to dose 2 parts but it was hard to maintain a stable alkalinity so I switched to GeoReef's Dual Chamber Calcium reactor - Lights: Radion G3 Pro to start, and currently on G4 Pro Livestock: - Blue Hippo Tang - Purple Tang - 2 x Yellow Tang - Clowntang - Blonde Naso Tang - 2 x Premium Picasso Clownfish - Magnificent Foxface - Green Mandarin Dragonet - Ruby Red Dragonet - Diamond Goby - Lawnmower blenny - 2 x Bartlett's Anthias - 2 x Flame Angel - 2 x Coral Banded Shrimps - 2 x Blood Fire Shrimps - 2 x Skunk Cleaner Shrimps - And 2 yellow tail damsel, which became permanent resident in my sump. Little evils, for sure! -And..... lastly... corals... just corals... Here are the pics of my tank since first built:

  13. Update on the clam. I went home from work today and found out my clam were dead. They were just fine in the morning, I checked them before going to work. They have been doing well since the spawning process so I thought every thing was fine. Everything else seem fine. Parameters are stable, temp swing about 1.5F.
  14. I'm not doing the triton method but I have a big refugium section in my 75 gallons sump and I have never taken anything out. Refugium light is on for 12hrs a day. The tank is not crystal clear since it always has pods floating around but my mandarins have never been hungry. I just had a clam spawning problem today (she had been doing that since 11AM yesterday til 4AM in the morning todat) which made my tank super cloudy and polluted. But everything is fine now and I personally think those chaeto helped me a lot in nutrition control. Just my 2 cents
  15. The clam has been doing fine and always opened widely. Everything else in the tank is doing great too. I'm watching the tank closely and skimmming wet at the moment. And thank you so mucg for reminding me about the oxygen depletion, I totally forgot about that. Hopefully everything would be ok . I've attached the picture of him just 2 days ago. https://www.dropbox.com/s/snf0jtxhtjch0zs/20170729_192845.jpg?dl=0
  16. LoL, did I really post the thread before finishing? Guess I was panicked... My questions are: Could the clam do that without being stressed? If the clam is stressed, is there anything I could do about it? I'm thinking about changing 20% of my water tonight and put some more carbon in. Now the whole bunch of my snails are doing the same thing too, just like a chain reaction....
  17. Hello guys, I have a squamosa clam about 10-12 inches. She has been doing fine in my tank and fully opened. In the last hour, I noticed she's been blowing out smoke and make the water cloudy. I could tell she's spawning and usually it's a indicating sign of stress. My water is still stable, nothing changed. I'm gonna be so darn stressed if I lost that clam >_<.
  18. Lol... I saw a copperband in my friend's tank eat algae like crazy. I personally have a team of tangs and a strong crew to kill algae :D.
  19. a Foxface, copperband, a strong cleaning crew, and low phosphate ^_*
  20. Nope, Mg level is the same. Adjusted dosing to 65ml a day (originally 15-20ml) and it's stable now . didnt think the clam could take that much....
  21. My system is 150G and Mg 1300. got about 40 frags, a big birdsnest about 13-15", 2 acans, a 10 head frogspawn, and some other softies. I was dosing about 15-20ml a day but i'm tripling it now to keep my Alk and Ca at the right level. Did the clam really take up that much?
  22. Hi guys, I'm experiencing a problem. My alkalinity is dropping quite fast in the recent 2 days. Normally, I dose only 15ml each of the 2 part everyday to keep my alk at 7.8 and calcium at 480. But in the recent 2 day, I had to triple the dose but my alk still 7.2 and calcium is about 420-430. The only different recently was adding 2 nems and a maxima clam. Was it a problem or my corals starting to consume more alkalinity? Nothing wrong with the tank yet but I'm just trying to make sure it wouldn't be anything wrong. Thank you guys.
