  1. Doug, I also live in Pville so I would be more then willing to assist in whatever way I can. I will be at the meeting this weekend as well.
  2. King of Corals in Frederick, MD is definitely worth a trip. Owner hand picks most of his corals in FL. https://www.facebook.com/King-of-Corals-82802206043/?fref=ts http://www.kingofcorals.com/
  3. Yeah, I have them all daisy-chained together as as one. First seachem matrix, then carbon, and finally gfo.
  4. Welcome! Post some pics when you get the chance. Love seeing other nano tanks
  5. The Tri Phosban Reactor setup is about to be full effect! http://i.imgur.com/6DZ0M9k.jpg
  6. I would be able to donate one ocellaris clownfish. My other two clowns became a mated pair so I need to take this one out soon or I am just going to end up taking it back to my local fish store.
  7. Awesome idea for a wrasse sanctuary! Are you planning on getting a mystery wrasse as well?
  8. I would recommend getting rid of the coralife "skimmer" if one can even call it that. I just got rid of mine for a Aquamaxx HOB skimmer and my first collection cup was dark brown and my water became crystal clear. The coralife skimmer was doing absolutely nothing for me.
  9. If or when you decide on inverts I would avoid crabs at all cost. Crabs are kinda douchebags and in a new unestablished tank even more annoying due to the lack of alage and waste to feed on. You'll find them chomping on corals, etc... so I'd just avoid them all together until the tank matures. Just figured I'd add that because I experienced it first hand with an emerald crab when one morning I found him chomping on my sun coral and causing it to bleed. Let's just say that crab took a one way trip to the bottom of my pond. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
  10. Hi everyone, I stumbled across this site a few days ago and thought it was to good not to share with the group. For all you members out there who own a DSLR camera, but don't own the crazy expensive MACRO lenses used to take breathtaking aquarium/marine life pictures which typically range $400-$1,200 depending on the camera well then this is the site for you! This site will allow you to rent those lenses for 4-5 days for a fraction of the cost. For example I own a Sony ax300 DSLR, but do not own a MACRO lens for it. I would need to purchase Sony A 100mm f/2.8 which currently goes for $584.00 on amazon... Now with using this site I can rent that same exact lens for $42.00 for 4 days! Just so you guys know my camera is by no means a newer model so that just goes to show how many different types of lenses they carry. This is also a good way to test out a specific lens if you are unsure you want to spend the full amount. http://www.lensrentals.com/ Hope some of you find this site useful!
  11. Just purchased the new AI prime flex mount from these guys. One of the only distributors I know that currently stocks this item! Kudos
  12. I guess that is naive for me to think that the cost saved between those two different types of test kits is even relevant. I might be past the point of saving money on electricity... even for a nano tank hehe. My lights are controlled via CA Reef Keeper lite system, but realistically a light is always on at some point since i'm doing a reverse light cycle for my refugium. My return is the stock coralife pump because anything stronger is just to much flow for the tank. I run my ecotech mp10qd in lagoon mode during the day and night mode reducing the pump power by 50% for 10hrs. By the end of the week I will be swapping out the stock metal halides for the AI Prime leds, adding 3 phosban reactors, and an Aquamaxx HOB skimmer... I've only had my tank running for two months and I think its safe to say that I might be addicted...lol
  13. Answered my question perfectly! Just what I needed to know in terms of the most bang for the buck. I'm going to go with the Salifert kit. Thanks!
  14. Hey guys and gals, Wondering if alkalinity, phosphate, and calcium hannah test meters are worth the money? Since my tank is only two months old I have been testing everything except phosphate and alkalinity. Now that my tank is maturing i'm looking into purchasing something to test those two parameters. Looking for some good advice on whether I should pull the trigger on the digital hannah meters or go with the old fashioned test kits.
  15. I like the aquascape. Are the two skimmers your only method of filtration? Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
  16. Thank you Jessica! I will definitely try and make it out to Bethesda that weekend.
  17. Hello all, New to WAMAS and the reefing hobby. I decided to go with a 29G Coralife biocube for my first tank due to the limited amount of space I had to work with. I also wanted to ensure I could maintain a tank of this size before I ever decided to go with anything bigger. The tank has been running since the end of February and is only two months old. So far I feel like the tank is maturely as expected with only a few minor hiccups here and there. The picture I posted is a bit premature as i'm still waiting on some upgrades to come in. Who would of thought that a light mount that is on backorder could cause me so much frustration. Can't remove my hood, cant mount my new LEDs, cant mount my HOB skimmer, cant mount my HOB phosban reactor.... But alas enough raging this is a hobby of relaxation. In terms of livestock the tank has 3 clowns, 1 fire fish, 1 six line wrasse, 1 seabae anemone, 1 green long tentacle anemone, a few Mexican turbo snails, and a few blue leg hermit crabs. I used to have a diamond gobby but one morning I woke up and lets just say one of my anenome's had a $30 dollar dinner... I know most people would make the decision of getting rid of the anemone, but honestly I like them more because my clowns host both right at the front center of my tank so they have kinda become my pride and joy. I will make sure to post updates as time goes by. Cheers! http://i.imgur.com/x61hTL0.jpg
  18. There is nothing wrong with having that alage. Your rock is just new. My tank is fairly new and it went through the same process and eventually turned to a nice gold brown color which I could tell my rock was becoming live! Just stay on top of your water changes and use a phosphate controller. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
