  1. I ran mine for 2 years with the back panel. I just redid it so nothing in the tank ATM except snails and 4 fish. I am a minimalist so I don't have too many corals but we can swap what I do have.
  2. Welcome to the club. I live on the north end of Hagerstown. I just redid my 34 solana and took out the back panel and hooked up a sump in the cabinet. I am much happier with it than before. I also have a 75 gallon tank at the office. If you need any help just give a jingle.
  3. Make sure when you program the outlets that you pay attention to its fail setting. For example I keep my tank between 77-79 degress and I set my heaters to 80 degrees on their dials so if the apex fails they don't cook the tank. For this to work properly you have to set your heater outlet to fail ON so your heaters will still work. If you set the outlet to fail OFF then your heaters will not come on and if its cold your tank will suffer. Programing the Apex is a little daunting when you first do it but once you get it right its easy. I have a BRS doser and use the apex to turn the outlet on for a couple minutes based on how much I want the units to dose. I make sure this outlet is set to fail OFF so I don't overdose the tank if the apex fails. I also connect my ATO to the apex and have it turn on for 1 minute twice a day so I don't have an ATO problem. This outlet I have set to fail ON so if the apex fails the ATO will still do its job and just rely on the sensors until I fix the apex. Depending on the type of lights you are using you might want to connect them to the Apex anywyas because you can program the Apex to turn the lights off if the tank gets to hot. When I had T5's over my office tank occasionally it would get up to 81 degrees and I had it turn off my lights to keep the tank cool. Now that I have LED's I don't have to worry about the heat of the lighting. What I really like is that my phone app lets me check the status anytime I want and it will send me a text message if there is a problem.
  4. I will be there! Looking forward to the event.
  5. Here is a link to the build thread. http://wamas.org/forums/topic/58143-tnias-75-gallon-office-tank/ I don't have a picture of the 34 Solana as I have recently torn it down for a major overhaul. I was not happy with the AIO setup and am having it drilled for a sump. I was not pleased at all with the Tunze 9002 skimmer so I will be upgrading to a SWC120 which will fit into the new sump. I will post a new build thread for it when I start putting it back together. Should be in a couple weeks.
  6. I got the reference Jason! "When did my car turn into a cannoli!"
  7. If you don't have a controller put your ATO on a timer so if there is a hiccup it only runs for a short period of time. My apex turns on the ATO once a day for 1 minute. Digital timers can get down to that level of control too. If you have a large tank you may need it to come on more than once a day.
  8. Welcome! I live in Hagerstown but my office is in Frederick. If you ever need a hand just drop a line.
  9. I don't use them anymore because a small sand particle got stuck under the magnet and scratched my glass. Now I just use the flat scraper and don't have to stress about scratching the glass.
  10. The lights are G1 and set to 20K at 70% intensity. They start ramping up around 7am and start ramping down around 5pm. I am not sure how to attach a file but I have the setup saved if you PM me your email or let me know how to attach it.
  11. Nice, where do you work? We are seeing things improve and hired in February and interviewing right now for another position.
  12. Yeah I have been looking at the recirc skimmers to solve the problem. I have my skimmer back on this morning and working on fine tuning it so its not overflowing. I only dose about 8ml so its not that much.
  13. I am designing my sump for a 180 gallon tank for home and making sure the skimmer is in an isolated area to minimize fluctuations. Below are recent iPhone images, sorry for the quality, of the tank today. I am a minimalist so I don't see many more additions to the tank. The purple sea fan needs trimming so if anyone wants some I can cut it for you. Same for the montipora that is almost about to hit the glass. I hate to cut it but I don't want it growing on the glass.
  14. I have had the skimmer for 2 years and the photo is from day one which I have adjusted since then. I am turning it back on this week. I turned it off in December when my controller fried and I had limited options to get everything running for 3 months while I waited for the replacement and had time to install it. I sit right next to the tank and it can be distracting from time to time.
  15. It runs great for a couple days then overflows then does nothing. I forgot I turned it off and after a month there was no noticable affect so I just left it off. I have adjusted the ATO to keep the water volume stable but just not able to really get it to hold well. I will be turning it back on this week to see if I have better luck. I do dose Vodka which probably lets me get away without it running and my bio load is fairly light.
  16. 75 Gallon Rimless Tank (3) sides starphire glass T5 lighting originally - now (2) Radion's (the growth has been awesome since adding the Radions) 24 Gallon Sump Reef Octopus Skimmer (Haven't turned it on in months - not happy with it but doesn't seem to be helping/hurting the tank) (2) Heaters MP40 Vortech Neptune Controller JBJ ATO in 10 Gallon Tank 50 lbs sand 80 lbs live rock Didn't want to build a custom cabinet but no one makes a (3) sided cabinet for my penisula setup. I am an architect so I designed the cabinet and it was made with mahogany wood on the exterior and plastic laminate on the inside for moisture resistance. Day One Day One Under the Hood Electronics New Lights this past Christmas (Growth has been awesome) Unfortunatly, I don't have a closer shot at the moment to show the growth. This is in the entrance to my office so aesthetically it needs to be very clean and I am kind of anal about things. I blame my profession. Hope everyone enjoys the images and I will try and get some better pictures soon. The tank has been running for about (2) years.
