  1. Great questions I also have been looking at getting the apex as well. If that is what the apex lite does why would I need anything more than the lite other than the probes?
  2. Ahh I see, so let me see if i got this straight... Avast top off connected to the pump which is connected to the Kalk stirrer and is slowly fed into the sump. Are there any other top off's similar to Avast design? Is the two little fishies kalk reactor any good or heard anything about it? Thanks by the way, this was exactly what i needed!
  3. I live in southern DC. So the cloudy water would be a to high of concentration (in the bottom of the stirrer) and a clearer water would be at the top correct? Is this the pump you were talking about? http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/brs-top-off-doser-50-ml-per-minute.html
  4. Do you still have some? Pick up this weekend work? Would like two as well.
  5. So i have been reading of the benefits of using Kalk but after reading some how to setups and after reading Avast recommended setup for a Kalk stirrer, which i would like to buy, I feel more confused on how to use it and get it running. Can someone break down in lamen terms how a kalk Stirrer works and how to set one up? From my understanding you can use it in a top off after water has evaporated? But you need to do it slowly? I just need this broken down for me ... Would love to either see pics or experiences with using Kalk (itself) as well! Thanks!
  6. Two awsome algae eating fish that to me are pretty fun to watch is a Court Jester Goby and a Lawnmower Blenny. Plus with those fish you wouldn't have to worry about them getting to big either for your tank. And they are completely reef safe.
  7. I did. Ran it a few hours in some hot fresh water. Will adjust. Will it take some gunking up in the skimmer now since I ran it in fresh water to clean?
  8. How do i know when i have reached a optimum level in the skimmer? Will bubbles slowly flow over into the cup or will bubbles pop right before it touches the tip of he neck inside the collection cup? It seems that at the top of all the bubbles the bubbles there are some what large. Is this normal?
  9. Yea why are the mouths so swollen? Doesn't look right or is that how cold water nem's look?
  10. Yes sir thats the color they were, cold water? wow must have missed that detail on that tank. Sorry i do not have pics of it, big mistake on my part. SmallReef when you go you will know exactly what tank I'm talking about haha.
  11. I'm still new to the area and finally had a chance to check out the aquarium. It was definitely amazing some of the sites and specimens that they had. Although I have a question about one of their tanks that I'm sure someone here would know the answer to (I hope!). They had one tank that had clown fish, Hippo tang, yellow tang, and a few long tentacle anemones. There was one anemone far in the back that was HUGE, what type of anemone was that? It literally looked like it must be at least a 1' in diameter. I didn't think long tentacle anemones got that big. On a side note i was a little disappointed with their anemone only tank. The tank lacked and kind of flow and nearly every anemone either had its mouth completely swollen or it was deflated. Am i wrong to think that these anemones were not in good shape?
  12. Doesn't the "Doc" have something to say about his now to?
  13. "Drinking distilled water will draw out salts and minerals from your body. You won't be dehydrated but you will be malnourished. Do not drink only distilled if you don't have too. Make sure you're replenishing your body if you must drink distilled. Adding salt and electrolyte tablets WILL reduce the draw on your body, but won't make you anymore hydrated."
  14. Well you bring a good point. I bought both remedies for the fish it was between E.M. Erythromycin & Melafix. I'm deciding to go with Melafix for now. It said to treat the first 7 days then do a 25% water change. It has me a little worried because of the thought of what you said the ammonia going up. Should i do water changes between doses?
  15. It will be done in a quarantine tank. But I will take note, Thanks.
  16. Ok so since i started this topic unfortunately I think the fish has gotten worse. What began to look like Lymph now looks more like a open sore. I'm about to quarantine the fish because I think it is something else other then lymph, I will try to keep him as happy as possible. He has what seems to becoming a hole in his nose area, you can nearly see the back side of his eye. I know we just had a great lecture about fish diseases but unfortunately so much info was given and I didn't not have a pen and paper to write most of it down. So hopefully some of this info is still fresh with you guys. With is being a open would with no other symptoms what can i use to treat it? Because i feel I need to treat him with something quick! And again acting nearly normal. He continues to eat fine. He will stick around the shrimp though so that the shrimp will clean his wound. If the Anthia gives me the opportunity i will try to take a better picture.
  17. Yea don't worry I have been paying VERY close attention to all other fish as well because like you said my biggest fear would be Ich or some other parasite to break out in the tank. But so far so good. Just did a weekly water change in the tank to keep water quality up like i do every week. Also like i said before, the Anthia and every other fish is acting completely normal but man this Anthia looks bad because of were it is located on him but he acts like nothing is there...
  18. SaltLife

    WOW!!!

You would need a 10' pole to clean the tank for the inside ... pain in the a$%!
  19. Wow very interesting. Is it something that will be popping up on the rest of my fish? the clowns blenny and wrasse have been in the tank for a while I guessing i probably wont see it on them? Or are they just as susceptible?
  20. Wow so i should immediately remove the fish, QT and then wait for the fish to fight it off then? Cause what you came up with and after reserching it a little looks like your spot on! Sounds like it may be contagious once it falls off?
  21. Recently purchased a Anthia about 3 weeks ago. In the past week in a half i saw i bump on his face what looked like a pimple. It has developed now a little bit more and looks like it may have opened up. He hasn't been showing any signs of stress, no ich, still eating like crazy, swims around fine. I really don't know what it is on this fish. Been searching google for this a while and seems I have hit a brick wall. He is in the DT. I don't really like dosing the tank with any kind of meds(although if i need to take him out and QT and dose i can). I do my weekly water changes. I had bought two of them one looks great and is doing well. Here is the tank stocking: 2 Firefish 2 Anthias 1 Lawn Mower Blenny 2 Clown fish 1Bloodshrimp 1 Cleaner Shrimp PH 8.0 Ammonia 0 Nitrites 0 Nitrates 0 Phosphate 0 Bad picture but if you look at the nose of him it almost looks like its eating his nose away a little bit. He isn't very photo genic so its hard to get a clear picture of what it is im trying to describe. Hope this helps.
  22. They look like this since people seem a little confused ....
