  1. do you have a valve on your overflow. it sounds that your overflow has a higher flow rate than your return pump? close it slightly to find the perfect balance.
  2. Good news for the hobby. Seems as the economy is bouncing back.
  3. You can see people throwing unfinished apples and other fruits etc in the water on the beach... That's probably how they got there. I've heard people feed blanched broccoli, spinash, and most of the frozen foods contain these ingredients anyway. But I read that human food's nutritional value is questionable for fish. I wonder what would experienced aquarists say? Or better to stick with nori and other seaweed?
  4. I wanted to see what fresh vegetables you feed your Tangs. We just left the Baltimore Aquarium and they were eating sliced Apples :0
  5. very nice looking tank. how big of a tank are you thinking of getting?
  6. Updated tank shots. we have a new arrival Vampire Tang.
  7. We just purchased some periwinkle snails and each morning we see one or two crawl out of the tank and dry out on the outside glass of the tank. Our tank is rimless any way to get them to stop?
  8. The blue hippo and yellow tang developed a good appetite for it. There are a few nubs growing on the live rock. I may need to increase their portion size during feedings so they would let them grow out.
  9. Have you had any issues with having a file fish? I would like to get one one day but heard they may eat inverts and some coral?
  10. We did, we used about 60% of the water to seed the tank and scooped up most of the sand as well. I had purchased a lot of live rock and switched out the better pieces to design the landscape i was looking for. The sump is full of rock as well. Right now the 40 gallon is complely full of rock. both tanks have a healthy amount of tiny brown starfish and copepods. The rock we had in the quarantine are also in the 40 gallon. Those rocks developed alot of algae during the hypo stage. Now all the critters are feasting on it. Luckily the pistol and emerald crabs are in the new system. The only invert that is missing is my Pom Pom. hopefully he will make an appearance in one of the tanks. I will keep the rocks cycling for another two weeks waiting to see if I can find him. If not I will breakdown the 40.
  11. Here is an update on the tank with all the live rock corals and fish finally in. Still need to hang the Radions and aquascape some more. I will be breaking down the 40 gallon soon. Live Rock, Sand , Stand and Tank so to go on sale.
  12. I am starting to set up the plumbing to connect the overflow to the sump. As far as plumbing cement what can I use? I dont want to cause a big disaster and use the wrong cement to connect the tubes and poison my livestock.
  13. How much rock do you have? and I take it is is dried out or is it live?
  14. Here are a few pictures of our tank progress. First is a 20 gallon QT. We used hyposalinity to kill an ich infestation. Ich 100% gone. I had the fish in Hypo for 10 weeks so far. Everyone is fine and eating healthy. Second we have about 80 pounds of live rock in the blue tub cycling. Last is our 40 Gallon which is fishless currently. We will keep it fishless until the new year. In the picture if anyone can identify this green plant. It looks like Shrek ears. Plant life worms copepods and starfish population has skyrocketed without our wrasse and other fish to pick them off.
  15. Here is sneak peak at our new 125 Gallon Tank. We purchased it from Great Lakes Aquarium in Michigan.
  16. I can take 80# of carib sea sand and possibly the live rock
  17. Cloudy in which way. Did you dump a whole bag of sand recently with livestock in the tank?
  18. Jan did you special order from somewhere or was it luck of the draw that it came with a coral. Also if you purchased it where did you? Thanks I am looking to grab one.
  19. On the Reef Savvy website. www.reefsavvy.com In the front page scrolls a picture of a pink and white crab. Does anyone know what kind of crab it is?
  20. The first pick shows the split with water line. Squeezed the iPad in there to get the shot.
  21. I set mine up in the laundry room. It was super easy I bought two pieces of hardware. One to split the cold water line. And the other to connect the RODI line to the split water line. The grey water I fed the line right into the waste line for the laundry. Next I purchased a large water bucket to hold the RODI water. The bucket is raised and has an auto shut off valve and drain valve to pour into my mixing bucket.
  22. How many people are actually running a Radion at 100%. This is the only group that may benefit from the upgrade. From what I have read, people are satisfied with about 50-70% intensity. We keep ours at 55% currently.
