How do ii pull out the PVC pipe from a bulkhead...I am trying to pull the darn thing and it's not coming off...it's not glued Anyway to make it loose
-
my hippo tang of 5 yrs just vanished...i suspect the rbta.....threw that sucker into a small ass tank...guilty until proven innocent
-
i had a leak develop on 1 out of the 4 pipes. it only drips when i turn the return pump off...and a reverse siphon starts... this time the leak is on the threads...its a first time ive seen a leak coming through the threads....there is no leak at all at the glass...just a drop or 2 trickle down the threads...on the outside.. so is this because it needs to be tightened some more...or because i need to loosen it because i may have tightened it too much ?

Any Lfs with the radion mounting kit Anyone know who may have 1

I got a used tank last weekend...it sat dry for a 3 days...and as of last night has salt water and I just added in a new sand bed... I want to move the rock and livestock from my 70 gallon into this(135g). I will probably bring over 30 plus gallons of water from the old tank... Just curious as to how long I should let it cycle for....
-
I got some 20 gallon buckets from tractor supply and drained it...put a few composite shims and good to go... Refilled with water ....threw in my sand...and watching it all now
-
what do you mean don't fill that side much...water balances out regardless of where you put it...sry i just didn't follow you there its off by 5mm...the reason why i wanted to level it was because its rimless and i dont want to add to the stress and also it looks a little off visibly...both front and back right sides are lower by 5mm as compared to the front and back sides of the left sides

I just noticed that the water in my tank isn't level... It's off by 1/4 inch from end to end and is holding 135 gallons I have 50 gallon tub and a few more smaller tubs. Does anyone near Herndon have something that can hold between 30 to 60 gallon

Great thx for all the input...I may have put the ribbed part on the wrong side...but only 1 washer did have the ribbed side...the others had smooth surfaces on both
-
I tightened it with the wrench and it's all stopped leaking...because I had everything glued up I had very little leverage...so I ended up with a few chips /scars on the nuts...while trying to tighten it in a small space....after that I have poured water in and so far not a drop...I'll try getting the pump and overflow going to see if their vibrations can cause a leak...but so far so good...except that it's been physically disfigured a bit due to the slipping when I tried tightening
-
its leaking from the space between the nut and the glass surface...well there is no space..since i have tightened it...but i think at this time...i just need to really tighten it with a tool.. i will post an update when i get home after tightening it further..
-
correct...i have slips on both sides then...where i have pushed my 1inch pipes in... and now i have a drip/leak coming through the nut where it makes contact with the glass... I am hoping its just a matter of tightening the nut some more.
-
actually the inside has no threads...just the return pipe / overflow pipe slide into it and make a snug fit...at work...so can't take a pic now.
-
this looks like a different bulkhead...since it has thread on the inside of it...mine only has threads on the outside ...also i only had 1 gasket (washer) which went on the inside... but i understand what you meant...just that based on the bulkhead i have...it is connected opposite to this..i.e. bulkhead ( wetside) , bulkhead nut (dry side), gasket (wetside)
-
hand tightening so far...i used the channel locks a llittle only on one of them..
-
I put the big plastic like screw (bulkhead) and the washer through the inside via the overflow area and the threads on it comeout under the tank on the dry side. then i used the nut to tighten it all the way up from under the tank on the dry side.. I believe i did it the right way... i also put the overflow pipes (part of the durso ) and the return pipe into the head of the screw ( that part is undthreaded)...now they were not going in all the way for couple of them so i bumped it against my carpet and heard them snap into place against the line in the bulkhead.. i dont think that should have damaged them ...but i am trying to explain everything that i had done... i also cleaned the glass in the overflow off any debris to make sure nothing was stuck between the tightened surfaces...

i got these atm http://compare.ebay.com/like/130541174586?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar

yea i think thats the only thing left to try...i wanted to avoid it at first since some people dont like to tighten it...maybe my fingers are sore..so i am not tightening enough... i will use the wrench i got for my shower nut to turn it.. I hope it does the trick,... i would hate to have to powersaw it off and redo....sigh
-
the O- ring is the washer...so yes that is included...its on the inside of the tank...some of them were flat some were ribbed on one side...i dont think that mattered...so i went ahead and put them in anywhcih way.. i did have all 3 parts then..the big screw (bulkhead), the O ring (washer) and the nut for the dry side which screws up against the glass on the underside (dry side) yet it leaks from the edges of the nut on the dry side...
-
it looks like this one...except i dont have threads on the inside... to the head of the bulkhead is on the inside of the tank...the O ring is between the head and glass on the inside...and i use the Nut like thing from below to tighten it all the way. it only came with 1 nut ( is that what you mean by gasket?) http://www.marinedepot.com/Double_Threaded_Bulkhead_Fitting_Double_Threaded_Bulkheads-Plumbing_Parts-FT1131-FIFTBHDT-vi.html

i am going to go with the radions or the vega if it comes out soon but atm i am stuck with plumbing issues...sigh
-
so i glued all my pipes together and glued the piece to the bulk head last and now i am seeing water drip from the head of the bulkhead...not the thread...but the head itself.. i used the soft O rind on the inside of the tank in the overflow and hand tightened as much as i could. very frustrated.... i don't know what to do right now other than saw the pieces off and start again.. any suggestions... i did not use any teflon tape...but then again its not leaking at the threads... it has 2 drains and 2 returns...atm it looks like 2 of the are leaking...but i havent put much water in the overflow...so dont know how the others may fare later... can i try to silicone it and seal it...ive not tried that either...or should i try and tighten it with vice grips...the pipes are all 1 inch and i got the bulkheads from brk.

I've seen this topic Elsewhere but I've decided I want to get one of these fixtures... I have a cube 36x36x24 rimless cube and don't know which of these to go with...without breaking the bank too much I hear the radions are the best buy are they a lot more superior and is the price tag justified
-
i think i understand what happened...the silicone on each side of the edge over time has gotten loose ... its present more on the edge that had starphire glass than the other edges...i guess more was need for starphire...idk.. but because it was loose algae etc got around and grew on it...i will have a deep sand bed and won't notice it... but is it ok to continue using it...or having that silicon loose make it unsafe ? i dont' know much about how the tanks hold together...but it looks solid
-
here are couple pics...not very clear tho.. see the loser part of the tank with the greenish algae on it...that silicone with green algae on it.
