  9. and even more amphipods but how to collect them? I can stir up the sand and net them with a small net takes a bit of time to get a cup. so there must be a better way, the girl is my niece and dive partner she will be a marine biologist next year, she counts the pods part time , $ 10 dollars per hour for a P.H.D. well it would not look good for a nonprofit to run an outboard in the muck then into a net but? the little brown crabs are so cute they never get bigger then 3/4" try to get them next weekend but doing something for chesapeake bay foundation going to ruin the weekend, did all the spring clean up for my 2 landscaping clients feel great but some how hurt my left knee so staying home a few days , ugh being old is like keeping an old car running oh yea the frozen shrimp look just like what we buy but free!!!
  10. this is the start of the breed and release, rtelles from wamas donated the tank stand and filter, we are netting grass shrimp to freeze as fish food, do the members know that you can catch these and many many other things local? I keep 100 shrimp alive as food treats for trigger and seahorses love there babies, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nM2k0k28Rb4&feature=youtu.be
  11. Its spring Duffy has to work and make money to pay for this stuff.
  12. It would help the conservancy to sell 6 or 8 seahorses as we have bills due soon, an oyster bed survey, $ 700 agh! we have been getting a few donations but the seahorse sales help alot, $65 each. 2-1/2" to 3" perfect size males or females and they will grow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9opjnT0Q3M
  13. anyone else doing this? I heard breeders and collage teachers are doing this, this morning its working better this is yesturday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYMUAvY03Yc
  14. if anyone is interested please let me know, I will go to Bethesda meeting and can bring a few with me but not to show just to deliver. If we do this please do not bring cash or a check but when you get home make a donation to our nonprofit that hopefully reflects the value of the horses, $65 each. We have two great restoration projects started but waiting government approval so for now we just breed fish. it's fun.
  15. V.M.R.C. is helping us to breed and release seahorses into the wild, they will be making sure I don't mess up selecting the breeding pairs maybe from the York river wow what could be better then this, they also helped us get more then 130 acres of oyster beds, Va. what a great state. got $100 of donations today it helps, you all know how much this stuff can cost
  16. seahorses will add some fertilizer to the sand bed. this grass is 50% plant has roots and needs to feed. we use prolifera caulerpra not as nice but easy to grow and the horses love it, please drop by this weekend if you have time, we have a member in old town I sold her 4 horses now she has 30

  18. by working i mean getting them used to the water low salinity and spring temp, so far I allway's bring them back home but they are ready, in bay they eat amphipods i colect them and put them in the tank at night so they live in the sand and grass, in florida and mississippi they have released way more the 10 million fish, strippers, red snapper, spotted trout, snook, red drum, cobia, the breed them all for sports fishing , some are against it but kits the trend, in the bay we put in geneticly enginered oyster spat anyway look at this video, im waiting on lots of shelfish and seahorse permits it takes time, ">
  19. this is a great video from France I'm waiting on so many permits to do this and my oyster grounds, wait wait wait http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xmo67a_threatened-seahorses-get-breeding-boost_news
  20. This is a K-1 filter im building in a 60 gallon cube tank, the holes in the P.V.C.make the bubbles that keep the K-1 moving. and foam insulation covered with silver tape. the best saltwater fish breeder in the country says this is the best filter there is! he should know he is a P.H.D. and 20 years ahead of us at least, this and my 60 gallon wet dry do all the work not much for the skimmers to do anymore
