  1. Awesome! PM sent. Thanks.
  2. Where do you guys get your plumbing parts in the Northern VA area? Or do you order it online? I'm going to need to purchase Flex PVC and other odds/ends down the line and wanted to see if there were any other options aside from Home Depot.
  3. That might be an idea worth exploring. Thank you. This is the thread that inspired me: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1757436
  4. To be honest, my dream tank has been a rimless cube. I was inspired by a long time build thread that I have been following on RC. I would like a 130g 36x36x24 cube, or something similar if not scaled down. Will have to see how this progresses.
  5. I don't feel like I have the discipline needed to maintain and keep an acrylic tank clean for the long term. :(
  6. He's too busy with various pending orders to set a firm deadline on finishing this tank.
  7. Unfortunately NAGA will not be able to accommodate me. Back to the drawing board. So frustrating.
  8. Coral Hind has some gorgeous bare bottom tanks.
  9. I tried searching to see if anyone has had an in depth discuss on pro's/con's of going bare bottom for a reef aquarium. I have a seen a 240 gallon acrylic mixed reef tank that was bare bottom - and it was gorgeous. Coraline had grown to cover the entire bottom of the tank and the sides were clean. Acans and corals were growing on the bare tank floor. It was pretty impressive. How hard is it to maintain a bare bottom tank? Are there any ramifications due to lack of sand for filtration? If anyone has a bare bottom tank, please post FTS!
  10. Just a correction, this tank should be 36" x 24" x 24".
  11. I'll be transferring my sandbed over from my 180 that I'm breaking down. Didnt realize that jaw fish would need an established substrate though, thanks for the heads up. I'll hold off on the jawfish for awhile then.
  12. As I move forward with this build, I am debating on what purchases to make for Skimmer, Return Pump, Power Heads and Lighting. I think with my limited budget I will need to purchase used hardware and will start searching for viable solutions. I plan to go mixed reef with this build, so lighting will be important. I do not plan to have that many fish in the tank, perhaps a blue spotter jawfish, two platinum clowns, and one or two other fish. I do plan on heaving a good cleaning crew with some other invertebrates. Any suggests on lighting? Skimmer?
  13. That's what I figured. I will be painting the back of the tank black and the PVC black as well in order the hide the plumbing. Can anyone recommend what paint I should use? I would like to avoid spray paint since I have limited space. Also, the 90 PVC elbow, should it face up or down in the tank? I would assuming up in order to create suction for the drain correct?
  14. My only concern about this tank is the lack of overflow "box". Naga mentioned that a simple 90 elbow is sufficient and a overflow box is not needed. My initial concern was loss of livestock if they should swim down the overflow pipe. Does anyone have experience with this? Have you lost fish or is this a safe and viable option? Naga has been using this same method with plenty of fish so I'm assuming it's safe and shouldn't pose a risk to my livestock.
  15. Hello folks, a long overdue update: I have decided to go with a custom tank from Jeff H. (NAGA). It is a glass 30x20x20 rimless tank with steel metal stand and a custom sump. I'm VERY excited about this build, NAGA comes highly recommended. Can't wait to get my hands on this tank. He's sent me some pictures of the tank in question, which I have attached below.
  16. Looking good man! I had that happen when I first setup as well, after the overflows filled up and water flow was set they disappeared.
  17. How much did it cost for the stand?
  18. Any chance your interested in selling just the stand?
  19. Does anyone know of anyone that makes steel frame aquarium stands? Powder coated black?
  20. Interesting. Folks at LFS at centre ills swear by it.
  21. Does anyone have experience with this fixture? Is it capable of growing SPS?
  22. That's so cool! I've never heard of doing something like this, thanks for sharing.
