  1. I stopped by Aquarium One for one last time before they close tomorrow.  They had some smaller skunk cleaner shrimp for half price (about 2 inches in length).  I picked one up and acclimated him for a while.  I gently place him in the tank and he swims to the bottom and starts walking around.  My mystery wrasse casually swims by and in one gulp inhales the entire shrimp.  I am watching in awe/disgust and I can't believe what just happened.  It was a small shrimp, but it was still almost as long in length as the mystery wrasse.  I can't believe he not only fit it in his mouth, but took the whole thing down in one bite.

  2. These guys had a 50% discount today - looks like they're moving up to Fredrick.  Sad to see that it's now a good 1/2 hour to any decent salt water store from Rockville.  I guess they're getting a bigger space.  I will say if I'm getting in my car for an hour round trip or more, I can hit several stores in NOVA or just one in Fredrick...

    Are you sure about this?

  3. Give it some time....once your corals adjust you'll see growth. I had several corals under my radion not grow an inch for 4-5 months after they were added and then all of a sudden boom....every time I put a new coral in it does nothing for months at a time. I think corals need a longer period of adjustment when you switch them to LEDs

  4. You said your nitrates and phosphates are at 0. If that is true you may have starved the coral. I learned that lesson the hard way too. I was obsessed with my parameters at zero and pale colors followed...once my nitrates increased the colors followed. Do you run a skimmer on the biocube?

  5. After using GFO for over a year I decided to pull the plug.  I initially used it to get over a cyano outbreak, but that was when my tank was only 5 or 6 months old.  It is now a fairly mature tank of about 20 months.  It hasn't even been a week but I'm seeing some really positive results in coloration of my corals.  There hasn't been an algae outbreak either.  I'm wondering if I'm in the minority.  My phosphates are still at .01 with a hanna ultra low phosphorous checker.  Unless I see things going downhill, I'm keeping the plug pulled.  What say you'all?

  6. why push the limit? the fish selection you have is fine and in proportion to the size of the tank. feed your fish 5 times a day instead of adding more fish.

Ha!  I wish I didn't have to work for a living a was home enough to feed 5 x a day.  I can get there on the weekends, but 2-3 times on weekdays at most.....

  7. My water is too clean. I'm feeding 3 times a day now and seeing better colors on my corals. It might be easier to just use fish poo as nutrients. I've had the coral goby for well over a year and never saw him do any damage. Do you think the mandarin would get along with the watchman goby?

  8. I have a 60 gallon cube and need to increase the bioload.  My current fish are:

    1 mystery wrasse

    2 clownfish

    1 yelllow watchman goby

    1 yellow coral goby

    2 anthias

That's 7 total fish, but the coral goby is about the size of my thumbnail so I don't think he even counts.

Any suggestions on adding maybe 2 more fish that will get along with the tankmates above?  Must be peaceful and won't touch my precious corals (lol).  Thanks

  9. I bought some corals from someone in Pennsylvania who shipped overnight USPS.  I got the box which had holes in it and was soaking wet.  Needless to say half of the corals were dead.  Luckily the shipper worked with me and gave me a replacement but this time we used FedEx.  I'll never use USPS to ship anything important again.
