  1. I have the Radion over my 60 gallon cube. It is a recently set up tank (a little over 3 months). Just wondering what you guys/gals have your settings at. I am running 8 hours natural at 75%, then 4 hours of blue moonlight at 20%. I have been slowly increasing intensity for the last 1.5 months. I have been raising it about 3-4% every 2 weeks. I'm looking for advice from people who have seen nice coral growth using their radion. It is a mixed reef but since it is so new I didn't load up on many coral yet. Thanks in advance.
  2. I like Aquarium One. I live within jogging distance of it so I go there frequently. The guys that work there have always been real helpful and never pushy. I bought my tank from them and some tank equipment. They can order things for you that come quickly. They don't cram a lot of fish in the tanks. Usually only 3 or so fish in one tank. I can get things online for cheaper but if it isn't a huge difference I will go ahead and buy it there to support a small local business.
  3. Thanks Steve. I don't think he is able to change out the outlet, but thankfully he doesn't live in this area and have PEPCO so he doesn't really lose power much at all. In fact when I lived there I can't remember one single time we lost power for more than 3 hours....but that is another subject indeed............
  4. Well I can tell you the person is not going to say "screw it" and ignore the advice. I put the thread up for people to look at and add anything that I might have missed.
  5. Ditto...just got back from there and picked up salt that was half the price of what I would find at the fish stores near my place.
  6. Well...I gotta make my point. In a 10 gallon tank even a few cups of tap water can destroy a nano. I've kept 3 nano tanks already and I know from experience there is absolutely no margin for error.
  7. I am giving my old man my biocube. My 60 gallon is quite enough tank for me to handle right now. He is sort of new to the hobby. He did have a saltwater tank in the 70's so he does have some basic knowledge. I will not be there to help him since he lives in Pittsburgh. Here is a list I have made. I would love people to chime in and let me know what I am forgetting----I know there is a lot more but I kind of want just the basics for now. It is a biocube so there is no skimmer, sump, etc. I am going to bring it up and set everything up with some lessons. The tank is fully cycled to so I am going to pick him up a clownfish and maybe a small goby. He is going to be bringing water samples to his LFS for testing too. He is not going to be getting a RODI unit for this tank. Please feel free to give me any tips or do's/don'ts that I can add for him. He is very excited to start up this hobby again. 8. My yellow watchman goby jumped into overflow and took a ride through plumbing into the sump the other night.....maybe yours did the same thing?
  9. Hanna checker is measuring the natural seawater at 420 so its not the test kit...oh well ill just have to wait it out..
  10. Im using ro water for top off....but im not mixing im using natural seawater
  11. Im not dosing anything....the natural seawater i use has calcium at about 420 so im wondering how it can increase...
  12. I have a fairly immature tank that has been set up for a little more than 2 months.....60gallons. I have been using natural seawater but will be switching to synthetic soon. Tank only has about 10 pieces of coral (mostly small frags) and 2 small fish. I checked my calcium levels twice today and both times they were around 540. I checked the alkalinity and it was ok at 9.5 dkH. Any thoughts why it would be that high? Obviously it is bad if it is too low for the coral but what about too high?
  13. I bought 4 of these battery powered airpumps a few weeks ago just in case. I have 3 tanks (a 60g, a 14g, and a 5g). I put 2 in the 60g, and one each in the 14g and 5g. I lost zero fish and my power was out for 4 days. They are really cheap and on 2 D batteries each one last over 50 hours! I am buying a generator next week should this happen again but I highly recommend these little guys. http://www.drsfoster...cfm?pcatid=3693
  14. Mine has been growing quite well, but it is almost a pinkish-grey color. I've seen quite a few other specimens in tanks where they are green or blue colored. I read that they really don't like light much at all. Mine has been right under LEDs. I'm thinking I should move it in the shade. Anyone else have experience with this coral? Thanks
  15. I have the same return pump as you. Love it. It is super quiet and you can adjust the flow on it. Check the instruction manual but you can dial it down as low as under 400gph if you think the flow is too much.
  16. I've never done a QT tank but I bought a 10 gallon with an aquaclear HOB filter and a heater. The HOB filter came with a carbon bag, sponge filter, and some bio-stones. I decided to leave the bio-stones out because I don't think I will be running the QT 24/7. I just put a green chromis in on Friday evening and he's doing fine. I am going to be ultra careful with my new tank so I want to keep him in the QT for a full 3 weeks. My question is......what should I do to make sure the QT tank water is appropriate for the chromis? Should I change the water? If so how often and how much? THanks.
  17. a week later....no crab....it wasn't his molt, that open brain ate him live....:(
  18. Im looking for a good filter for a quarantine tank (10 gallon). Any suggestions?
  19. Well here you go.......I just used tweezers to gently take the crab out......it was the crab, not a molted shell :(
  20. I really wish it was the shell....but it wasnt.......i have some pics that ill post later..
  21. I'm thinking its pretty cool except I'm out 10 bucks for a new emerald crab........bought it to eat bubble algae, but it hasn't touched it so maybe my next one will do a better job.
  22. Title says it all.....before I went to bed I wondered why the open brain was so inflated. When I got up and looked in the tank I saw two claws hanging out of the mouth of the open brain. It was a small emerald, but the open brain is only 2.5 inches long.
