  2. Welcome to the site....you will find this is the best site around with the most helpfull friends in the hobby...I can not say enough good things about this forum....look forward to seeing your build thread
  3. did it rip or split...can u post a picture please
  4. I too switched from t5 to mh and have had the same thing go on in my 180....don't think it likes to grow to well with mh being so intense....IMO
  5. also you should be pressing ok on the apex after each solution and not going from one to the other and then done....like up top rinse the probe prior to starting in reg. ro water then do the low ph then rinse in ro water then do high ph when done rinse again and put probe back into water.... Also is this a new apex system or an old one....if it is old the probe will only last about a year and have been told if they are not kept wet they go bad as well after inital calibration....
  6. Ok so what do u do in case of bad weather for the meeting I see they are calling for snow and ice friday night into saturday....
  7. What would be awsome is one of the raffles to be a Sohol Tang
  8. I am sure they will be....with the way the site is run and all the AWSOME MEMBERS THIS SITE ROCKS
  9. I personally would not keep my lights off that long...you will be suprised at how quick it will go away if you lessen your feeding, less light, water changes and an ro/di you will win the battle....just remember never feed mor that they can eat in 1-2 min....
  10. Ok I have been looking at the winter meeting post to see what the raffle prizes are and nothing yet....and hints
  11. Ok drop your feeding to once per day and only what they can eat in about 1-2 min. keep light reduced and do regular water changes...when u do the water changes suck as much of the cyno u can up while doing the water change...also make sure you are rinseing your shrimp before feeding this will help reduce the phosphates in the tank and help with the cyno as well....try this before going down the road with chemicals...IMO
  12. I try to stay away from any chemicals in my tanks unless there is no other choice....I had a very bad outbreak in my 180 and 45 and got rid of mine with reduced lighting and smaller feedings and water changes....when I did my water changes I sucked out as much as I could get out each time and it slowly went away...took me several weeks but got rid of it....without any chemicals
  13. how much and how often you feeding....what r you feeding
  14. Ok so I finished putting the wood on the stand and got the syain on today....will be putting the poly on tomorrow and get a picture up when it is done.... working on it slowly but surley....might have it done by summer
  15. what size are your return lines that will determine the size of your pump/s schedule 40 pvc can handle the following with minimual pressure loss and noise on the return side of the pump 1" 960 gph 1.5" 2100 gph 2" 3300 gph hope this helps
  16. I woul dget in on the Bulk Reef Supply Group buy and get the Hanna Checkers for Phosphate, Alk and Calcium for the rest go with what reefoholic said to get the Sailfert....now these test kits are more pricy than API but you are getting what you pay for and I have personally checked sailfert to api and I have found some of my api to test wrong...with us as hobbiest we want our prize coral rather it be shrooms or sps to live and grow and enjoy for a long time....so if you can go with the best test kits you can...I am switching over to all Hannas and Sailfert kits....
  17. Ok I am wanting to upgrade my skimmer for my 180 gallon reef tank and was wanting to get some idea if the avast wil work for me or not....if not what do you all recomend for me to go to....I have a total water vol of around 220 gallons and will end up being a heavy load later down the road
  18. I hope i can get my 180 to look half as nice as your tank does.....awsome
  19. Ok so I have been working on the wifes 90 gallon tank some more.... I have the HPDMI liner in and in place, have also started to install the wood for the outside of the stand....I test fitted the doors to make sure they would work....

  22. well here is the tank setting in its new place on the stand....I will be completing the stand in the next week....this is going to be a slow build
  23. Ok I have a MRC skimmer hooked up to my 180 reef tank....I am having trouble getting it to skim like I think it should...It skims but the stuff it is pulling out is a light green color and has never been a dark brown....I went by the manufacturer directions on how high the water needs to be but I still think there is something I am missing.... Now the set up it is set up externally being run by a pondmaster 18 1800gph it is going up and out of the sump thru the wall and into the skimmer then back out skimmer to sump by going up and over and down into the sum total head is around 4 ft. total both ways.... I only have one beckett air intake on the skimmer have water level when off to just under the bubble chamber.... So any help with this will be greatly appreciated.... Thanks All
  24. +1 with what everyone is telling you to do...It will take several weeks to get it all out of the tank....best thing to do is to cut back on feeding and cut the amount of light back as well... I did weekly water changes and when you do them suck as much out as you can while doing the water change...I only feed my fish one time a day and that is what ever they can eat in 2 min and no more....
  25. Ok I am going to start making my own live phyto for my tanks and wanted to make sure I was reading everything right about the food for them to eat while they grow....I see where they are saying to use miracle grow all purpose plant fertilizer for them to use as food to eat....so my question is will it be ok to use this in the water when I start to grow them...
