  1. Greetings! It's been 10 years since I've had a tank and about 7 months ago I picked up a 125g tank that is a freshwater community tank. While it's been great having a tank to sit and stare at I've really missed the amount of life and color that comes with a full on reef tank. So that leads me to my new project which was long term but seems to be taking an accelerated path. So whats the plan.... The initial setup will be four 40g breeders plumbed (1 1/2" drain) to a 150g Rubbermaid stock tank with 3/4" dual returns in each corner over the top. Long term I believe I'll have space to expand to 1-2 more racks or 1 large tank. I've had two 75g reefs before and never felt like I had enough space so this design will allow me to have a decent amount of space with room to grow. I also wanted to go with four separate tanks so i can divide coral types so there isn't any chemical warfare and also different types of fish. Stock tank will house a bunch of rock and I'm planning to rig up a floating basket for cheato. Equipment... I picked up a Mag 18 return from someone getting out of the hobby for cheap so that will be the starter return pump. I have two extra small Mag pumps i'm thinking of running in the sump to keep detritus down Skimmer is still up in the air. Lights I've decided to go with LEDs but I'm not decided on brand or model as of yet. I've got 1 300w jegar heater plan to buy another or two. Once i see how much flow i get from the return lines I'll look into power heads. I'm sure I'm forgetting something but this is a start. Huge thanks to @Telegraham for helping me with drilling the tanks today!! Next step will be stands.
  2. Not sure if your review is good or bad but I pulled the trigger before the sale ended and it arrives today.
  3. Happy Labor Day All! This seems like a really good deal on a basic RODI but I'm always sceptical of those type of deals. Lol So I wanted to see if anyone had experience with this model. I know the RO buddie had mixed reviews but this looks like standard size model. Dr. Foster and Smith have it on sale + 15% off for labor day + mail in rebate. Its aquatic life 100gpd https://m.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=40363
  4. http://www.capitalcichlids.org/ Is local and is a sister site to monsterfishkeepers.com which is awesome for bigger fish.
  5. I've read that the chrome/siver finish is just a paint that salt will errode it and it will eventually peel off. Also +1 on the drop ceiling sections for them
  6. Not sure if you've checked eBay, but premium aquatics sells them on their for great prices. The user name they use is premiumaq.
  7. I have two koralia evo 750s that I used on my reef tank and they worked great with no problems at all. I was actually planning to put them up for sale in the near future since I converted back to freshwater. I still have the boxes and everything for them if your interested PM me.
  8. Here's a couple links from Melev's Reef that might be able to help you out. http://www.melevsreef.com/55g/55sump.html or http://www.melevsreef.com/install_sump.html
  9. I've had great reliability out of the ASM models. I ran the ASM G3 on my 75Gs and it was easy to use and worked great. I picked it up for 100 used off reefcentral.
  10. How are all those zoa's and that LPS working out for you??
  11. And I'm assuming that you kept the bucket at the same temp as the tank. Only reason I ask is because I've heard a similiar story with adding liverock that had been in storage and the heater malfunctioned and the LR was sitting in an overheated bucket for a week which killed off pretty much everything in the rock. When the liverock was added to a new tank it killed the tank parameters.
  12. How long was all of your liverock and sand out of the water?

  16. I'm aiming to have all pickups scheduled for Saturday (October 29th) or Sunday (October 30th) morning of this weekend. I'm pretty sure I've setup up picks ups with most people, but if I haven't please shoot me a PM if these days work for you. Also please bring a container!
  17. ebo jager has always been my choice....I still have 2 running in my tank from 2004
  18. Taking offers on whatever is left unreserved.
  19. The only reason I did the spreadsheet was to reduce having to make many posts updating the list, and to reduce the amount of PM's for already reserved items. If this is inadaquent could a mod please send me a PM and I'll try to figure out a better way to list things in the thread, and updated.
  20. Unfortunately with my pending move, work, and the new born I'm not going to have time for my reef tank anymore. I've come to this realization before the tank started to suffer which is why this livestock going to a good home is very important to me. I've broken everything down on a google spreadsheet that I will update 2-3x times daily, and have also included a link to my photobucket album with pictures of almost everything. Most of these pics are about a month old so most things are bigger. It is password protected and the password is below the link. I would like to get 80% of the livestock spoken for before I start pulling stuff out of the tank so I don't get stuck with a pair of clowns in an empty 75g. I believe all of the prices are fair, but I am open to packages. The only thing i ask is no low balls please. Please Pm me with what your interested in and I'll reserve it for you. I'm looking to get rid of corals first, LR second, Fish and Inverts third. I'm available most nights and weekend, but I would like to fit as many people in as possible on a Sat or Sun type of event. Feel free to contact me with any questions! Spreadsheet:Tank https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...VnRmc&hl=en_US Photos: http://s1178.photobucket.com/albums/x366/NRConroy/reef/ Password: Reeftank
  21. I'm currently turning a 55g into a sump/refuge as well, and was hoping you might be able to share your design ideas.
  22. Are you guys just using common off the shelf peroxide?
  23. Congratulations...While I'm unsure if your newborn will be interested in your corals I can tell you my 4 week old daughter loves to sit in her bouncer and watch the fish swim in my tank.
  24. If you are looking for new setup and plan to go the T5 route a good place to get a fixture is bulkreefsupply.com. If you get a Tek fixture from them you get 25% off the bulbs to go with it. They carry both ATI and Geissman bulbs, and you'll get free shipping too.
  25. For my 6 bulb setup I went with the setup below. It really makes all the colors pop especially blues and greens. ATI Blue + ATI Purple + ATI Blue + ATI Blue + ATI Purple + ATI Blue + When I bought the bulbs I also picked up an ATI Aquablue Special for more 10K to the tank, but to me the setup above really makes all the colors glow.
