  1. Is Powerline ethernet an option for you? I tried the wireless bridge conversion think as well as the gaming adapter and neither were reliable. I've got the power line plugged into a power strip and it works fine.
  2. When I worked at the old Walter Reed I used to stop by frequently. The owner helped me come to my senses when he saw me buying a constant supply of tiger pods for an ill advised mandarin purchase. Reminded me I was spending a lot of money to keep a $20 fish eating. I move it to Justin's tank that afternoon.
  3. You may want to consider keeping the older non-digital version for other uses. I have a sensor in my display tank to indicate if the water level get's too high from a clogged overflow. Using the non-digital version plugged into your return pump is a surefire controller-proof way to keep a flood from happening. You may find when you add a controller the outlets start to add up. Instead of buying another power strip you can use these for simple on/off applications.
  4. +1. Not as quiet as an aqua lifter but peristaltic is the way to go - no worries about siphon.
  5. I didn't have much success with the corners. The frame would be perfect but when you press in the netting it distorts the frame and ends up wonky. I'm sure with enough tweaking you could make it happen. I gave up and just did a rectangle then cut out the netting.
  6. Looks like right now you just need some SW - I'm out of town and usually have 20 gallons but that won't help you immediately but I'm sure there is a member in your area that can help out. But, in terms of how you got here I'm not completely tracking your set-up but I'll tell you how I set up my ATO. I started with the Avast non-controller version. MJ900 in bucket of RO. Tube heading up to tank but NOT submerged below waterline to prevent siphon. Left pump unplugged for now but was watching the LED and listening for the click from the switch. I placed the sensor tube about 50 percent in the holder. I then placed it in my display tank in my display tank almost submerged so the pump was off. I then slowly started raising the tube and holder together until I heard the click and saw the LED turn on. I then fine-tuned with the holder screw. Then plug in the pump. I made the switch over to a peristaltic as Avast suggests fairly quickly since the possibility of siphon was annoying. I have four of these switches of varying ages on my tank and have not had one fail yet.
  7. Mine was outside warranty. I don't expect stuff to run forever but I was disappointed that BRS did not sell replacement motors. I disassembled mine and have been poking around the web for a compatible motor. Part of the reason I went with Avast is that they do sell replacement parts. Here is a video of the avast pump. I would recommend not placing it on a wall as I have since it amplifies the sound. As soon as my back recovers from contorting into the fish closet I will relocate it.Lets try the video link again
  8. My brs pump went down and I switched to the avast one. It is dc. Same sound level if not a tad quieter than the brs pump.
  9. I had trouble with the wireless game adapter as well. Would go with hard wire if possible but I use Powerline without any issues.
  10. I've made the mistake of chasing a skimmer. As everyone said just wait and don't make too many changes at once. Also I see we went to the same art school.
  11. I've ordered two CUC from reef cleaner. No problems. Only issue is that if you add the crabs, shipping gets steep. I'm sure a LFS could provide the same stock at decent pricing.

    Petland

I usually stay out of this stuff but I can't let this go without a comment. First off, I love dogs. I personally don't purchase dogs from pet stores. But, HSUS is a ridiculous organization that has nothing to do with pet shelters. They use brand recognition to solicit donations with less than 1% of those monies making it to animal shelters. As you can see the below link, they would gladly take all our reef tanks away. http://www.humanesoc...um=content-1459
  13. Check with epleeds. His furniture looked great. I got the name from him but can't find it now.
  14. I've used powerline successfully as well. Another option is a Motorola NIM box. Basically it converts your coax signal to an Ethernet slot. I did that both for my apple tv and ac3 when I had Fios in Maryland. You can find them on eBay or I still have one if you are interested in trying it. I've no. Had good success with the gaming adapters myself.
  15. Xenia is not a bad nutrient exporter if you trim it. Do you have a fuge with decent flow and light that you could move some pieces to and let it grow out there?
  16. Reston Glass Company will do them for $30 a hole. They are next door to marine scene.
  17. I use the avast switch in both my RO and SW reservoirs to alert me when they are low. Never had a problem and no moving parts in the water.
  18. Avast had a prototype nano reactor. Check with them
  19. No. I was going to check polarity then splice into the existing cable. Hopefully Radioshack will have the parts.
  20. Can the power supply for MP10's be split between two control boxes?
  21. Good experience with Ecotech Marine. I had a seized MP10 wet side and a short in the control box which had just come out of the one year warranty. They honored the expired warranty and I was impressed by their very well organized return process. I also got a call back after they had received it with a detailed explanation. Since they are close, the whole process was quick - unit left my house Wednesday by UPS ground and will be delivered today by FedEx.
  22. +1 manual removal. I used a metal scrub brush attachment on my cordless drill and low RPM.
  23. Programming basics. Possibly a topic for a future meeting?
  24. I currently have a 24x24x12 tank. I love the cube type dimensions for aquascaping but it protrudes a fair amount into a small living room. At its length, it not that intrusive but I'm considering going bigger. The tank has to sit against its current wall since the fish closet is behind it. If I extend the tank length (I'm thinking 48 inches) for more volume, it will start interfering with the doorways. The wall would fit an 18 inch tank nicely but I'm worried that won't be enough depth for aquascaping. Any thoughts on minimum tank depth both from aesthetics and function? Thoughts from those who have an 18 inch deep tank?
