  1. If you have a dremel, I'd do it with a dremel and a cutting blade, best way I know how to for precision and low risk. Kevin
  2. Agreed on the Kilz, I would probably also suggest using an exterior paint as they tend to be more water resistant by nature. Kevin
  3. Thank you for the link, now... all I have to do is get a UV rated for a 150, 1 more thing to add to the list of things I need... Thanks again, I think I agree with you on taking out the stuff that could harm the fish. Kevin
  4. Nice job, congrats on the outcome! Kevin
  5. Having heard things both ways in regards to reef tanks I am going to put this out there for you expert types with a lot more experience than me. I was told never to run a UV on a reef tank as it kills what you are trying to promote in the reef (note: I currently don't have a sterilizer running on the reef). I have also heard that it doesn't hurt to run one. Thoughts and recommendations? Thanks, Kevin
  6. I'll be there, bringing my wife and son. Signed up the whole family when I joined, my 9yr old is my fish expert. Just ask Dave F, when we were there Friday night he named off just about every fish in his tanks. See you there! Kevin
  7. Congrats, glad you got it in place with no casualties. I had my wife a bit awstruck when I got the 150 in place on my own. New to the area, had nobody to call for help. Give a shout if you need any help with anything else. Kevin
  8. I'm in Chantilly, but willing to make the trip if you think I can help. I moved my 150 from storage into my house by myself. Kevin
  9. Well one thing I know for sure eats hair algea is sea hares, they will eat it like there is no tomorrow. Problem is once it's gone they have nothing to eat. Maybe we should all chip in and buy one and have it be the group hair algea remover. Whoever needs it gets it next. Just a thought...
  10. With extreme caution I will also make this suggestion, Marine Maracyn will kill cyano. As stated, it should be used with caution. I'm not convinced of all the promises that it won't hurt my reef critters. Kevin
  11. I'm also dealing with cyano issues at the moment, if you reduce light it also dies off. Not the "best" way unless you have alterate ways of keeping the corals happy, but it is very effective at ridding the tank of cyano. I'm also looking at doing a possible group buy with www.piece-of-the-reef.com, I have contacted them and if we hit $500 we get free shipping, I have a post about it up in the general discussion area. If I get enough interest I will go ahead with the order, Christina is really good and her prices are very fair. I don't think I've paid a listed price yet and my prices on snails have been well below her website. I'd imagine if we hit big quantities of snails it will get even better. Let me know who's interested and I'll get with her for a full quote. Thanks, Kevin
  12. I'd love to do it myself, not sure my 7:30-5 schedule m-f would work with the hours very well though. Kevin
  13. okay... that's 3 of us... no more fish/livestock suicides... As for the no touchy rule, I have my wife well trained, she doesn't touch anything without calling me and I guide her through what to do. Granted my setup isn't as sophisticated as most of you, but I prefer her calling me vs trying to anything above rescuing a fish. Kevin
  14. Ouch, I think we've all been here, I would do incremental water changes to bring the salinity back up, if you do it too quickly you will definitely shock things. The zoos may be fine once the salinity is back up, I've found mine to be amazingly resilient. Kevin
  15. Wow... okay losing my GBTA by getting sucked into a filter was hard, but that beats me. I'm very sorry for your loss also. Sean @ Aquaco is a great guy, talk to him and he may be able to work something out with you regarding the clown. Seems we're both having bad week. Kevin
  16. Funny stuff, of course that's why I got the Janss pipefish from Aquaco and put it in the fuge... for just such emergencies. Thanks for the video Gary, it was an amusing break from staring at servers. Kevin
  17. Wow... No wonder you were up so late. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. It sounds like you have things under control at this point, but the offer is there if you need help with something.
