  1. Hey Guys, I havent been on here in over a year, and Im finally realizing that I dont have enough time for my tank. WAMAS was a great tool as I was getting acquainted with the hobby, and Im sad to have to leave. Im offering the setup for the price I paid four years ago when I purchased it, $300, before a few upgrades (lighting, sump, fans etc) ... Here are the particulars. 75 gallon tank 20 gallon sump Wood Stand w/matching canopy 2x250W MH lighting with 2xT12 Super Atinics Quiet One 3000 pump About 75 pounds of live rock About 50 pounds of live sand 3 RBTA's 1 6'' bubble coral Various Zoas 2 clownfish 2 engineer goby 1 diamond goby 1 black and white damsel 2 buckets of IO salt, RODI and all of the other odds and ends you pick up through the years. Im having trouble uploading photos, please email and I can send you a few, or we can schedule a time to come by and take a look ... thanks for looking. -Mitch mtisc323@gmail.com
  2. I just fed the nem, and yes, I have all that in a 75 ...
  3. I have two t12's ... as for the diversity, I decided it was worth a try since all of my other anemones have settled on the middle level of rock work, and since the carpet stays on the bottom I figured she'd be ok down there. Since I lost most of my coral/fish when I lost power during the snow storm for almost three days, I dont have a whole lot of fish swimming around. Ill monitor the situation
  4. Beautiful 'nem ... is joining the tank with two rbta's, a sebae and a haitian long tip. The guy just settled in, he's about 6 inches across, and already took a nice meaty piece of mysis! Heres one with the flash: And one without, just under the actinics:
  5. Is it something about this time of the year? or are they always spawning ... I have never seen any eggs, but just this afternoon I saw about a dozen very small nerites running around my sand bed.
  6. heres a guy on reef central trying to sell it for $5000 .... http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1782428 ... after reading down he lowered the price to 2000
  7. Hey guys, Im in Bethesda, I lost power for a day and a half. I had an air bubbler in the tank, however the tank obviously got quite cold. I lost most of my fish, but my corals arent looking bad, except for my anemones which I dont think made it. I was able to pull out most of the dead fish, save for a diamond goby, yellow tang, shark nosed goby, two domino damsels and an algae blenny. I dont see any of these guys, so my fingers are crossed that their alive, however if they arent, how can I make sure that I dont then have an nitrate spike to go along with the freezing tempatures. Is it as simple as just changing water? I also see some of snails crawling around, but no crabs, is it safe to say I need to replenish my crab pop in hopes they'll eat the dead fish? Any help anyone can throw my way, Ill be much appreciative. In the meantime, I am bringing the tempature back to normal slowly, and will continue to test. Thanks. -Mitch
  8. Sounds like a great idea ... Id love to go see the tank in person, I keep hearing how great it is
  9. Ive had a single rbta in my tank for the past year or so, this morning i woke up to a two! Last night I performed maintenance on the tank, and gave it a pretty good once over, and the anem didnt look any different from usual. My question is, it is possible it split over night?
  10. I had a white sponge growing in a zoa colony of about 200 polyps, which i couldnt take out of the tank. I picked off with my hand what i could of the sponge, then I used my hand (gloved) to close the polyps, so i could see the rest of it. Then I used the end of a pair of scissors and scraped the rock at the "thickest" part of the sponge. When I was able to get under the sponge, I gently pried it up, and it hasnt been back since. Maybe it was dumb luck, but it worked great. Good luck
  11. Is it safe to add a fish to my reef tank that was previously in a tank that was dosed with copper? Obviously, I would not add any of the water the fish came in, but after QT, can the fish carry copper into the display? And if so, could it possibly be enough to bother my corals?
  12. Im in Bethesda, and a cannister in my RODI unit cracked two weeks ago and Ive been topping off with water from the tap, and I have not seen any problems from it ... that being said, Id say maybe 15 of the 100 gallons my system has is tap water
  13. Figured as much ... thanks for the responses
  14. I think I know the answer to this question, but when I am topping off the water in my tank, I usually just use straight RODI water. I keep my tanks sg around 1.023, can i premix my water to 1.023, and use that as top off, or will that bring up my sg, since i am adding more salt to the system?
  15. Ive never done it, but i imagine that you cant do it unless you are transporting less than 3 oz. of water. As with deoderant, shampoo, cologne etc. you arent allowed to bring any liquids in your carry on over 3 oz. That being said, I think you can call your airline directly and ask about exceptions, or possibilities, or maybe visit the TSA website. Keep us updated, Id be interested to hear what you find
  16. Well with that being said, anyone in the Bethesda, Rockville area that wants to donate a piece, Id be more than appreciative ... thanks. -Mitch
  17. haha darnit, i should have thought of it 30 minutes ago ... i just started thinking with a sand sifter in the tank, I want to get a few pieces I have growing in my sandbed up off it .
  18. Maybe a stupid question, but where can i buy a mabe 7x4'' piece of egg crate for a pseudo frag rack?
  19. Pictures forthcoming, but i put a tupperware ring around my waist filled with pebbles and fake trees ... wore a blue shirt and pants and had felt fishes taped all over me ... it was fun, but not quite as good as i pictured in my mind
  20. I want to do something with the random buckets, tubing, gravel, sand, fake plants etc that ive accumulated over the years of fish keeping ... any ideas?
  21. I am playing around with a few different lighting options ... first would be the typical 2x250W MH with actinics on either side, the second would be to have all four t5 actinics on the back half of the tank, and the MH's on the front half ... Will setting up the lighting the second way, as shown in attachment affect coral growth negativly? untitled.bmp
  22. Ive been reading about using superglue to attach corals to rock, Ive always used specific "quarium glue", is this safe? ... what do you use?
