How many of you guys (and gals) use a refractometer?
bamainva replied to miniflea's topic in General Discussion
Ended up getting one after about 6 months. -

I am still trying to get over the championship game this year...:-). I have a feeling that will be the game again this year. I didn't change anything at all, left it the way it came. Below is the best picture I have left from when I had the 29g set up with all the lights on. The color was a lot better then that. Here are some pics of how the set up is.... Mike

Even though you are a Gator fan... :-) I had the 20" over my biocube 29 and was very happy with the results. I thought the overall design was good and was easy to set up. I ended up going with MH bulbs for my 65g but I think you can't go wrong with either the T5 or MH. The only drawback is the limitation with only having the 2 bulbs to choose from at this time. I read somewhere they are going to be adding additional selection for 16.5" bulbs for this set up.

Zoozilla's 320 Gallon "Moved to Another House" System
bamainva replied to zoozilla's topic in Dedicated Tank (Build) Forum
My tank is coming along well. I think it is about time to enjoy it and watch things grow. Is that toadstool the small frag you got from me? If so, that is some very nice growth. Keep posting the pics. -

Very nice set up..... -
Very nice pic. If I didn't have a top I thought he would find a spot to jump out of I would get another one. They are great fish with great personalities.

I believe Wally's has them. -
Working from home today...so decided to take a few pics..if anyone in the Haymarket area has a good camera and would like to stop by and take some pics..the color is really better then what my camera shows. I might have something in my tank I can frag..:-) My wife got me a really nice early bday gift...some new relectors. Still acclimating stuff and getting them straight..:-) Random shots..

Very Nice...looks great.

They came with the sump that I bought (had a 6' and 4' hose). I just saw them in some magazine I was looking at...I want to say Dr. Foster and Smith. I will have to check later today. I have them on 1" PVC.

I got it about 8 months ago at Petco and they had it labeled as a carpenter wrasse. He occasionally like to go back and forth in front of the glass and flare up.

Still have been to lazy to get the 30g sump from under my tank, but I went ahead and put a hole in the wall. What I added on the other side of the wall... 30g sump 20g Water reservoir (top off) 15g will be used as a refugium I still need to straighten some of the wires up, but it has become so much easier to do maintenance. Kalk Stirrer connected to top off system... Pic of soon to be refugium.... found the spotlight sitting in the garage. The refugium light I was going to run while the moonlights are on in the main tank. Thanks Mike

Bought a lighting system from them. Had no issues at all.

It has been a few weeks and have made some changes, one of the biggest was adding a kalk stirrer. Everything seems to be doing well. The colors don't come out great but below are a few pics taken today. FTS.... A couple of the recent fish purchases.... Neon Goby that I have had for a year now... Blue Tort (true color doesn't show up)... Mike

Did you possibly knock it off center when you were taking the wrench to it? I had a couple issues when replumbing mine and after I thought I had it, when I made that extra turn it knocked it off center and started leaking again. Had to drain the water out of the overflow and get things lined back up. Good luck. Mike

Transitioned my corals and all from my 29g biocube with the Nova Extreme 6X18Watt T5 set up to a 2x250W MH and 96 watt VHO actinic. I had it set for 2 hours under the MH for the first 4 days, then went up to 3 hours for 4 days and added another hour every four days for the MHs bulbs until I got to 8 hours. I didn't have any issues at all during the acclimation process. Mike

Not sure if still available...located in Frederick thought I would pass it along if anyone had interest http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/zip/1112764416.html Thanks Mike

I believe BRK has it and Centreville aquarium just started carrying it.

I bet the kids loved seeing that. They could probably stare at the tank all day. I had some leathers that I dropped off this morning as well. If I am remember it correctly there were quite a few mushrooms in your set up. There was a nice pale yellow leather that was in a container. Also a bunch of xenia on the rock..that could just be cut off and put in the tank in your classroom. Thanks Mike

Nice meeting you this morning. I saw the tank this morning...looks good. Ask Dave for some of the softies that I brought in today.. :-).

Thanks....right now I am dosing using the Kent Marine essentials once a week. I am going to be getting a doser soon, so it should help with things. Mike

Was looking for something a little bigger and within the limits given by my other half. I found a 65g tank/stand and homemade canopy, along with a 30g sump/protein skimmer/phosban reactor, really everything that I needed besides the water. I decided to make the purchase and am looking forward to watching the tank mature. The canopy had 2X250w MH and 2 VHO actinics in it and since I am wanting to venture into the SPS world, I thought this would be a nice set up. I need to look into how to get these pictures to really show the colors off...but it will do for now. Below are some pics of the beginning...starting to put some water in the tank. Picked up some base rock and a piece of live rock, then waited and waited...Finally after 3 weeks....something to look at...yes the diatom bloom Started adding some corals on 3/15 and everything moved from me 29 on 3/17 and here is where we are today.... This is my daughters favorite fish A purchase from BRK on 3/21 Thanks for looking Mike

Agreed..I had this fixture on the biocube that I just tore down. Was really happy with it..didn't have any issues with heat..and brought out some nice colors.

I got a 20in T5 set up for my 29g biocube. Ended up cutting out the middle portion of the hood, leaving the frame in place and put the T5 set up on the sides. Left the filter cover on and the feeding lid on the front on. Overall I was happy with the results. I didn't have any issues with heat without the fans. Still has been running with fans and it has been maintaining 79 degrees. Of course MH will probably add some heat. The evaporation increased as well. Good luck....
