  1. I agree with what others have said already. Just do more water changes with RO/DI. You can also clean the glass and use a powerhead to blow loose algae off your rock and siphon out as much as you can when you do water change. If you're running any filter material in your canisters I'd say clean those often to reduce nitrate buildup. Running some phosphate remover and carbon in your canisters might be good too. Definitely keep your water parameters within acceptable levels and stable, higher ALK levels and Ph can help too. I am a true believer in dosing Kalkwasser, just do it slowly and be sure to monitor Ph as it raises Ph levels. Good luck. Wreck
  2. nice work, I have a GEO kalk reactor and love it. How much did it cost you to make it? Wreck
  3. I think you'll like the reefs at both Belize and Cozumel. I have not dove Belize but I did a week of diving in Cozumel and really liked it, this was probably ten years ago but I'm sure it's still nice today. They have some nice shore dives and snorkeling, the reef pretty much starts right from shore, sloping down to about 30 feet and then a steep drop from there. I would recommend trying to do at least one scuba dive there so you can drift along the wall. Most dives are setup as drift dives in Cozumel because they usually have some current, you drift with the current and the boat follows your bubbles you don't even have to kick if you don't want to. Good luck and enjoy. Wreck
  4. How much water do you need to make? are you filling the 90 for the first time? I may be able to help you out.
  5. Looks nice. I'm in Bethesda, so if you need any help with anything just let me know. Wreck
  6. awesome tank, I love to see big tanks so let us know when you have the tank tour party. You said the Solaris light is 72" long but your tank is 120" long, are you going to have more lights or just center the Solaris? Good luck with everything. Wreck
  7. Is it really a wet/dry canister or just a regular canister filter? I ran a canister filter on my 55 for the first 6 months. I highly recommend you go to a sump system. In the meantime, I would run a layer of floss filter that you clean at least weekly, some carbon, and phosphate remover if you have any algae growth. I believe most people here would say not to use any bioballs or the like in the canister filter. Wreck
  8. I like the seaflo maxi-jet mods, cost effective and lots of flow. I put a MJ1200 mod in my 55 and it was way too strong, I then put the mod on a MJ400, nice flow but then locked up after a week. I then replaced the prop with the Seaflo kit for a MJ600 on the 400 and it works great. I like the look of the MJ mods a lot more than the Koralias. Wreck
  9. You can get the 5 gallon buckets with lids at Home Depot(orange buckets) or Lowes. Wreck
  10. 5 gallon water jugs that are used with water coolers work nice to store fresh water, but don't work well for mixing saltwater because you can't fit a powerhead in the top for mixing. I think 5 gallon drywall buckets are standard equipment for most aquarists for mixing water and water changes. I may have a couple extra water jugs that you could have for a few bucks, and I could even fill them with RO/DI water. PM me if interested. Wreck
  11. I just moved a condi anemone from one tank to another today. I tried holding ice against the foot, went through over ten cubes with no success. Then i tried blowing it with a powerhead, seaflo mod MJ, that was just totally torturing it, practically blowing it's tentacles off but still didn't release. I finally just removed the large rock it was attached to out of the tank, chipped some of the rock with a hammer and chisel and then used more ice to get the anemone to release fully. I put him in my other tank and he attached to some rock immediately, so I guess he's ok. In your case I would probably try covering the side your don't want him to come out of with some rock, then maybe he'll move to the other side. good luck. Wreck
  12. very cool, I'm glad you got to see your clownfish lay her eggs. I've seen mine do it a few times and it's pretty cool to watch, especially because she has to swim upside down to lay the eggs on the underside of the rock. If you make note of when the eggs are laid and when they hatch, you'll be able to predict when they will lay eggs next time and probably get some video footage. Congrats and good luck. Wreck
  13. Is that Sea World Florida or San Diego? I took my daughter to Sea World San Diego a few years ago and she loved it, especially feeding and pettignt he dolphin and seeing the baby dolphin swimming around. Those hole markers look cool and that hole looks pretty long for a par 4, I hope you had a good drive off the tee for that one. Wreck
  14. Was your outlet a GFCI? I'm in Bethesda, I can install a new outlet for you if you're available during the day on weekdays. Wreck on weekdays
  15. I don't have a link to a DIY but I read about people making airline silencers using a few inches of PVC pipe and stuffing it with filter floss to act as a muffler.
  16. that sucks, I wish you luck. Maybe it's time for a float valve group buy. Wreck
  17. When I discovered I had bristleworms I freaked out and went on a worm hunt every night for a couple of weeks until I was told they can be beneficial when kept to a reasonable population. I did recently see that brisleworms were getting at my T. Gigas clam that was sitting on the sand bed, so I placed a dead plate coral skeleton on the sand for my clam to sit on. Wreck
  18. Just by looking at the website it looks like the 3 comes with a handheld TDS meter and an RO sample port that bypasses the DI. Good luck.
  19. Thanks, I'll have to dig around and find a power supply around the house, I'll go to Micro Center (which replace CompUSA in Rockville) and see what fans I can find. Wreck
  20. I'm also finishing a canopy and I'm going to put two fans blowing in. Do you just get computer fans at the store? Any recommendations on fans and power supplies for them? Wreck
  21. My wife and daughter like the tanks, but hate it when a fish dies (which hasn't happened in a while except for some Bangaais that only lasted a few days). They tell me what colors I need to add and let me know their opinion on how the tank looks if I change the lighting. Before my clownfish started laying eggs my wife told me "no more tanks", but after I raised some baby clownfish she gave me the OK to setup another tank, it also helped that I was given the tank for free. I'm still working on her for clearance to get a bigger tank. Wreck
  22. I had a bubble like that form on my hammer for a few days and then it disappeared, it's fine now. Wreck
  23. I agree with Tygger, cut out the leaking parts and use new parts. Always make a dry-fit before gluing. Also as part of the dry-fit, it's a good idea to to make lineup marks on pieces so you can put them in exactly how it was dry-fit. Also make a mark on pipes that go into joints where they stop so you know you are all the way in the joint when you cement them. I probably don't need to say it, but make sure the joints are clean and you use fresh joint cleaner and cement. Good luck, Wreck
  24. Kindof off subject but.. who's having a tank tour?
  25. I just installed an ATO from autotopoff.com and it works great. I got the dual float model with snail guards for $50. Wreck
