  1. for some reason I'm thinking I saw this on Dr F& S Live Aquaria that yellow tail damsels can be kept in small groups. Maybe it was some other vendor site, but I think it was that one.
  2. this is making it sound like I should get one...hmmm
  3. To have a fish that is healthy and much more likely to survive, it's worth the extra money. It might take 3 fish wild caught to meet the lifespan of 1 captive bred (I'd actually be interested in seeing such ratios for various fish).
  4. I was on that side of uncertainty at least. Clearly I don't know Virginia, but I'm sure there's a reason for me associating the word with Maryland.
  5. shoot, that all sucks. Sounds like you were ripped off.
  6. When a fish is captive bred, I don't know why people would chose to buy caught ones of the same type. Can someone post a list of captive bred fish somewhere on the forum?
  7. I don't even know if Winchester is in VA or MD
  8. I saw the thread about it. I knew just from looking around other sites that this is the best
  9. I think it just takes making sure the silicone actually gets into the entire crevice, not just over top of it. I ran my finger through it down the seam several times with pressure to make sure. It would only take a little airhole or something to have a leak if the silicone isn't truly in the seam rather than just covering it.
  10. how does one create more of a leak anyway? From stripping off the old stuff?
  11. I'm glad the nem came out of hiding. It really is pretty. I wonder if tomato clowns will host in one of those.
  12. I'm not putting a tang in a 45 because it's only 3 feet long. Years ago I had a beautiful, big and plump yellow tang that I really miss. Some eon or other when I manage to get a 75, I will get another yellow tang. I believe they are my favorite fish even before clowns. For right now, I have to settle for something smaller. Damsels are out of the question, except maybe chromis. I wonder how many would go in my tank for a little school, if its them, the clowns, the dottyback, and planned yellow watchman goby. Whatever it is, that would be it for the fish.
  13. I don't know that pond lights are enough light. Some specifically say not for use in aquariums. I think I'm going to give up on it for now.
  14. LOL. Sounds like you need an early retirement to get all that done.
  15. No liquids on the plane. I think there was a post here a long while back about transporting corals as carry-ons.
  16. Well, I have read your project but have no clue what the device is for or what SCWD stands for.
  17. You'll end up doing what I'm doing, which is to set up a tank just for that fish.
  18. I guess Wednesday night I'll test it out, leave it overnight, then if it's not leaking will take it back to work and set it up. Thanks for the tips
  19. I think for yellow as an entire fish being yellow, I'll go with the watchman goby. I looked some stuff up on chromis earlier and now can't remember it. There was a limbaugh??? chromis that looked interesting. I'll have to look it up a second time because info isn't sticking in my head right now.
  20. I went the route of putting all the fish in a separate tank and treating them while leaving the tank fish-free for a couple months. Believe me, it was well worth the effort.
  21. I'm hoping to be set up by Thursday - the silicone should be cured before then. I'm using the LR, sand, and caulerpa that I already have, so there won't be any cycling to do. I will be using a PC fixture, and there's a lot of natural sunlight unless it's cloudy outside. I need to have corals to put in this thing now (and my regular tank). Do you have any suggestions? Anyone got some they don't need?
  22. I seem to have figured out why the tape needs to come off BEFORE the silicone sets.... I ended up re-doing the job. It looks decent now. So, how long do I need to wait to test it out and use it? It was not leaking before I stripped the old stuff off so I see no reason for it to leak now. There is also silicone on the outside of the tank over the glass seams - I didn't do anything with that since it was only the inside verticle seams that were worn (maybe too much scrubbing?). I just want to hurry up and set the tank back up - my office plants are lonely for their watery friend.
