  1. No takers so I will drop price for everything to $600.
  2. i am sure it is related to lighting -- MH lighting has forced my RBTAs to not have bubbles but based on what i have seen elsewhere - they will come back under t5's

  4. i wold go in on it with yo. i have majanos that are getting out of control. pm me and we can figure out how to share. it is $120! rob
  5. what to do about increasing problem with hair algae. I have noticed increasing amounts of hair algae getting out of control in my tank. are there any natural ways to rid the tank of it? any kind of fish or inverts that will chip away at it?
  6. it is in fact the sedra 3500 -- thanks for the help.
  7. i need the whole pump - mine stopped working and is giving off an electrical shock! I read of the same thing elsewhere.
  8. the pump on my skimmer died and i need to get a replacement for it. does anyone know where i can get the same pump ?
  9. I built several columns last year when i rebuilt my setup. I used diamond coring bits that i got at lowes or home depot. they are pricier than masonry bits, but do a much much better job. i just used a rubbermaid tub to submerge the rock in and drilled away. for thicker rocks i had to break out the cores and sometimes even go from both sides, but gives a very clean hole and perfect for sliding over pvc. i suggest scrapping the idea of masonry bits altogether.
  10. All of the rock is from the old system and this one has been running now for about 8 months. I have a euroreef skimmer - it works ok, but not amazingly well - does produce a lot of skimmate not sure of ammonia or nitrite, but nitrates are up above 25 ppm consistently. good question about the sponge/filter socks -- i thought about this yesterday myself. the only sponges that are in the system are covering the outlet pipe in the back of the tank so that nothing gets into the sump from the main tank and i realized last night that this could certainly be the source. I am going to remove them and replace with some screening instead. any other suggestions ??
  11. I have been having a real problem controlling nitrates in my tank and just not sure why. My old tank had a DSB and i never had any problems, but my new setup does not have a DSB. I do not overfeed tank at all and have a very low bioload in the system - very few fish - 90 gallon tank - lots of LR. Water changes help for short period. I have a small refugium in my cabinet with some macro, a DSB, and also using Kent Nitrate sponge pellets in fuge. nothing seems to help and i'm starting to lose some of my corals over time. I just cannot figure out the source of the problem. I do not have bio balls in the sump which would cause this over time - anyone have any ideas or ways to help mitigate the issue??
  12. A few years back I had a similar problem. the electrical conduit that runs from my house up tpo my pool for the electrical service for the pump somehow was cracked underground and allowed water to seep in. the water made it all the way to the breaker box. many of the breakers eventually began to corrode and we replaced the entire box. it was costly, but nothing compared to the fire hazard that was just a ticking time bomb. I suggest that you have someone look at this immediately and also think a bit more about how you are going to fill that conduit with foam. the foam will NOT stop water intrusion - it simply soaks up water like a sponge. my advice - replace it all asap! A lot less expensive and less dangerous than the potential fire that could occur.
  13. I was there yesterday. Greg is putting together a really nice setup and when they get fully up and running I think it will be a great resource for everyone! Greg is really a great guy to work with - he helped me out when i first set up my system 2 years ago and recently we worked out a great trade for me to go from my 120 tall (which just didn't work in my space) to a 92 corner. the corner quarter round is just awesome and I thank greg for working it out with me. I want everyone to know that Aquatic Obsession will be a great place for those in the area and that greg is great to work with - he goes the extra mile to help out customers and the customer service is unparalleled! Hope that folk drop by there soon and see what he is putting together - an awesome setup for sure!
  14. i'm still cracking up at the last trick - that made my day.
  15. would love the help dude - but it looks like you are a good distance away. I have a few potential takers for the sand bed and help on moving the tank outside - thanks for the offer for sure! Rob
  16. traded for a 90 corner - far better for my house.
  17. i have all of the sand and crushed coral from my 120 gal ready for someone to take for free. all that i ask in exchange is a little help getting the empty 120 and stand out fo the house - 5 minutes work for very well established sand bed.
  18. I have the same skimmer and would love to do this but i don't understand the concept - any good links that (1) explain what the recirculation does for the skimmer compared to its normal operation and (2) exactly how to do it?
  19. I have been having a similar problem in my 120g setup. Water changes and LOTS of flow really helped. I put in a maxijet 1200 with the sureflow upgrade making it 2000 gph! Every day now for the last week i have used another power head to blast the slime off the rocks and sand into the water column where the maxijet help to keep it in the water column so that much gets skimmed out. This has really helped alot in just a week. I agree that the problem must be fixed in the first place or it will just keep happening. In my case i think much of it was due to overfeeding the tank. I have cut WAY back on feeding - that with water changes and a ton of flow have really helped the problem. I would not have thought that flow alone would help so much, but the thing is if there is enough flow to keep it from attaching to rock and sand, then it won't grow as easily - that simple. Of coarse water chemistry plays a huge role as well - keep an eye on levels of NO3 and PO4.
  20. I have a 120g deep tank. i put to k 4's in recently and it was not near enough flow. I recently put in a maxiject 1200 with the sureflow upgrade making it 2000 gph with the 2 k-4's as well. the flow is alot, but it works just fine. I think that 2 k-4's would be just fine for a 75g system.
  21. I am a structural engineer (PE, PhD) and I performed these computations myself before placing my 120g in my living room. Quite honestly, unless you are a trained engineer, I would trust nothing until I either had an engineer look at it or knew how to figure this out myself. Especially in an apartment where you don't own the building. Its not a difficult as long as you know something about construction and how to determine loads and resistances of floor systems, but you need to know about the construction of the floor before anything. I do agree with one statement I saw - the joists must run perpendicular to where the tank is to be placed - otherwise only a couple of joists will resist the weight of the tank! My tank is actually at an angle to the direction of the joists, but I made sure that enough of the joists were resisting the load of the tank! Call me if you want me to evaluate - I do this type of consulting work all the time. Rob Zobel (703) 850-8831 cell
  22. I am adjunct faculty in civil Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering Department. My wife is Executive Director (full time admin faculty) of environmental health and safety. Let me know if I or my wife can help in any way - R. Zobel
  23. I was thinking about setting up a refugium for my 120 gal reef tank and have some questions. (1) any links to build your own refugium from old aquarium (2) how big does the fuge need to be to be effective (3) what kind of lights are needed thanks for the help. RZ
  24. Bob, I got one for a gravity fed auto top off i built - got it from brk. or you can mail order one here http://www.pondepot.com/index.asp?PageActi...&ProdID=185 Rob
  25. i've had one now for about 9 months - everyone said that it would be difficult to keep. Well at first it was challenging to get him to eat, but one day he just started eating cyclopeze pellets and now he will eat mysid, brine, cyclopeze pellets, meaty bits of clam and squid etc. It is an awesome fish - lots of personality and can set the clock by him - goes under the gravel every night at about the same time - although I don't think he understands daylight savings time! All in all an awesome addition to my tank - my favorite fish!
