  1. Folks, I checked with Hello Lights on potential discounts on a pool order. I was informed that once we are able to detail the items that we wish to purchase, they will be able to furnish the discounts. The reason quoted was that their profit margins are different on different items and hence will be able to give better numbers when they see our items/quantities thanks krish
  2. Folks, I purchased this pump in August and has been sitting for want of attention. I finally got to plumb the closed loop to 2 1" sea swirls last night. The pump ran for 10 minutes and quit. The impellar assembly melted. The motor spins, but the impellar will just sit there. No back pressure, no obstruction to rotation , whatsoever. I checked some threads on RC and found that the manufacturer shipped out shoddy impellars that melt and will ship new one for free. This is freaking unacceptable. I now need to wait for this crap to showup next week. ****NOTE*** = IF you have one of the REEFLO pumps and the impellar looks BLUE in color, please CALL the company and get a FREE REPLACEMENT before you mess with it. I now need to drop in the 1/2" sea swirl/pump that i removd. All this after working till 3am to get this done. -krish
  3. Well, So you plan to constuct a beam balance. Lets get the bellows cranking and the coals fired. Will need to see tar/charcoal marks on Chiefs face from the blacksmithery -krish
  4. Chief, I need a little help. A Henweigh. Is it exactly a Hen Weigh as to weigh a Hen ? Could not find the meaning in my websters. -krish
  5. Chief, Whats the next reef related project you are spear heading ? -krish
  6. Again, Let me try to get a $ amount here. James - $28 James buddy lunch - $20 ( too low, too high???) Chip - ???? ( Carbide router bit, pvc pipes, tap , weldon used for the first 3 reactors) The grand total will be split among 17. This does not include the $40( for the plastics) and the $18 ( for powerhead/fittings). thanks krish
  7. Doug, I will buy from you enough to glue 3 units . -krish
  8. Folks, Why don't you design something like this. http://www.marinetechnical.com/ProCal%20Reactor.jpg This is a dual stage reactor. I own one and if you need dimensions etc, you are welcome to come and take a peek. Basically the dual stage gives more time for CO2 to act upon, good recirculation. The one thing folks need to keep in mind is the power of the aragnite to clog these 1/4" tubing. I use a nylon screen inside the chamber on the intakes. Power head inside the chamber is not such a good idea given that these particles will be constantly hammering the impellar. -krish
  9. Luke, I guess you did tap the holes for the fittings. Did you purchase the tap? Can it be passed on to the crew? Glad to know it works like a charm. Will need to wait for chief to schedule the next session after he is back from the camp. thanks krish
  10. Ok, The guy at air-gas mid-atlantic was not too helpful. We fitted the regulator and spayed some soap solution and could not spot the problem. I came home, dismantled the regulator, the solenoid, the needle valve. I went to HD and bought a 1/4" plug to seal off and just test the regulator and solenoid witout the needle valve. I suspected it was the needle valve assembly. It was still leaking. I then removed the solenoid valve and plugged the regulator. The regulator was good. I then removed the solenoid and attached the needle valve directly to the regulator and voila, no leaks. So now, i need to get a replacement solenoid. -krish
  11. Doug, Chip needs to know what each person owes you on the powerhead and fittings. -krish
  12. Folks, I called Air Gas Midatlantic. For a 20lb tank exchange, they charge a little over $24. Don't know what Roberts charges for a 20lb tank. For the 5lb, with our discount, they charge $16. I have one cylinder from each. Will chat with them about club discounts and see where it goes. They are in Manassas/Alexandria/Baltimore and a few other locations around. -krish
  13. Tony, These taprite regulators have a bultin O ring. The instructions mention not to use a washer. There is also a sticker on the brass nut that we tigheten to the cylinder. It mentions not to use washers. If it had not been for the solenioid valve, i would have immersed the lower part into water. Just frustrating not knowing where the leak is. -krish
  14. Mike, Egg crate does not create weird shadows. I have used it over MH to cut down the light levels when i change lamps to a different Kelvin. remove the acrylic rightaway. -krish
  15. Folks, I just realized that we need to cover for some stuff that people added on and we never paid for. We need to make good the usage/cost incurred. a) Chip - Weldon 3 and 12 - 1 tube each. b) Chip - The router carbide drill bit for cutting the sheets. c) James - The Sheet of Rubber for the gasket. c) James and His buddy who cut the holes in the flange and rubber sheet. We owe them a lunch folks. James might be the reefer, but he is using an obligation to get someone at work spend their lunch hours on this project. Please add on if i missed out any. We need to replace the expendables or add a few $ and chip into the expendables. Well, this is just a suggestion. thanks krish
  16. Steve, The teflon tape is on the low pressure side. I know the folks at Roberts advice against teflon tape use. But there is some white color teflon tape looking stuff on the new regulator fittings. May be its something else. Thanks for the good suggestion. Will take the stuff to Roberts and have them help out. -krish
  17. Folks, I run a cal reactor. The 5lb CO2 used to last me 2 months. The last one i exchanged with Roberts lasted me just over a week. I then got the 20lb tank refilled at vienna Inn. That lasted me for a week. It was then that i realized that the CO2 regulator probably has a leaky diaphram. I got a new one ordered from http:://www.beveragefactory.com I removed the nozzle and valve and installed a solenoid and a needle valve. I then tested it on a refilled 5lb bottle. The bottle just lasted me 2 days. It showed over 500psi when hooked up. I have tightened all the couplings that i installed. I have not messed with tightening the guages. I guess for a new regulator, the factory would have done that. I have used teflon tape for all joints. Now here are my questions. a) How long does a refilled 5lb tank last for folks? A refill is just a gas transfer, unlike a cylinder exchange where they fill liquid CO2. b) Using soap water for leak test has been unsuccessful. I need help on this one before getting another full CO2 cylinder. thanks krish
  18. Folks, If anyone has extra bucket(s), please bring it on. That will help split the last one, in case either James or Glenn show up . Someone will be kind enough to forward it to the one who never showed up. thanks krish
