  1. My tank is over 15 months old and running fine. Knock on wood. I have the glass bracing on the top, reef ready with the drains , holes drilled. I asked them to watch out on smearing silicone on the front glass. Once i got the tank, i did some minor clean up on the silicone and re-applied a bead on the inside seams just to be on the cautious side. overall Darn heavy. Tom , the owner never offered Starphire glass then. Now he seems to offer it. Overall, good value for money . John - va_reefman has a large tank/stand/hood from him. -krish
  2. Ok Folks, The stuff is on the way. Hello Lights order Dave, They used UPS and not Fedex. Typically the UPS arrives around 6pm or so for residential. I can request if they can do a morning delivery or perhaps deliver at my work premise or hold at the UPS center and i can pick up in the morning. Damages - Folks. Our order totalled $1213.75 They accepted to do it for $1100 shipped. This works out to 9.3% discount. I had to go back and re-negotiate, since the discount offered after submitting the larger order was smaller than the one we received the first time around. I was shooting for 10% after shipping. But again, the shipping went up as well. Overall, 9% is fair after shipping. That still holds the 13% that they offered to begin with pre-shipping. thanks krish
  3. Scott, I called them and fixed the issue. You should be covered. They said that they will try to ship it out by this evening, so we should receive it on/before 27th. -krish
  4. Folks, The Kalk reactor rocks. No leaks and has been running fine all day long. I feed it direct from my RO/DI storage cylinder. I throttle it down on the input with a small valve from HD. The output drains to the sump and it drips like a drop a second. -krish
  5. Chief, It ain't anything special. Its just the plumbers silicone grease found in Lowes. The plumbing section carries it for 2 bucks or so. This is the Food grade version and has no petroleum base. It is for using on O-rings, gaskets etc. Its a small plastic container. I can buy one for you and will be good for 2 reactors. -krish
  6. Folks, I sent out the order and got a call back on the VHO lamp pricing. The same issue that Phil ran into. I explained the reason and they understand the discrepancy. Purchasing just the lamps versus purchasing it as a combo with the ballast. -krish
  7. Chris( clownfish) Is Gasket Sealant Type 2 the food grade type? If not, it should not be used in my opinion. -krish
  8. Ghazanfar, I have changed ownership of the item from Martin to You as well as added the Reflector/socket and 3 pin wire for you. The List above reflects the latest changes. Phil, Thanks for the thanks. We are all equally crazy -krish
  9. Phil, You were right. I searched the items by the code and plugged in the prices. Adding it as a combo did matter. So i went ahead and revised the prices on the VHO lamps. Here is the breakdown for you. Ballast - $35 3 piece Endcaps - $19.50 for 2 pairs End cap mounts - FREE - 2 pairs per ballast Lamp 1 - $21 Lamp 2 - $23 Wire - $3.50 So the total is $102 per Kit. Now 3 times $102 = $306 I presume you need the endcaps as well. May be that is what added up the $60. -krish
  10. Grav, Per your post in thread-2, the 6 fluorescent lamps cost much more. 110W, 48" 10K Coralife Item Code: 11-54027 Price - $25.95 48" Coralife (VHO, T12) Actinic 03, 110W Item Code :10-54022 Price - $21.95 So that will be 3 times 25.95 and 3 times 21.95 which brings your total up to $319.20. So let me know if you need to trim or go ahead. No issues in revising the order. -krish
  11. Folks, The final tally is an impressive number. Grav,Ghazanfar, Scott, Martin will need to double check the order. I will fire an email Wednesday AM when they open shop and will give the green to purchase. If they offer an even better discount by our impressive order, we will spread it around. Thanks folks, -krish

  13. David, Not yet. I sent an email out to them giving a heads up that i am going to email out a bigger than original order and they need to get back to me quick , so i can give the go ahead. I was stuck at work till 7pm. So will do the final summary now. -krish
  14. Chief, No offence. May be a bad choice of words rather. "Noland has an orangeish colored gasket material " - i was referring to you making a gasket out of this stuff that you had on hand. -krish
  15. Gentlemen, Good news. We have a solution. I used Plumbers silicone grease. This is the food grade grease from lowes. I applied it on the flange. Then placed the gasket. Made sure that the gasket seated firm. I then applied it on the top of the gasket. Then seated the cover and put the nylon screws. Filled with water and no leaks. Now i need to empty it and fill it with kalk and complete RO/DI H2O and let it run . Good luck. -krish
  16. Ha. This negative information is painful. No incentive to try the leak test on mine, since it probably will. The gasket is still soaked in water. I feel it is definitely softer than before. Chief, are you mucking with the orange stuff that you are talking about? -krish
  17. Martin, No problem. I can add it all up and resummarize in a few hours. Ghazanfar, i would like you to Amen the change as well, so i don't see a disappointed face -krish
  18. James, I have left the gasket soaked in water since yesterday evening. This evening i will reinstall and check it out. I still need to test out that one reactor with the glue leak. -krish
  19. Folks, I will resummarize the order in a few hours and repost. The new additions are not a problem. I will redo the order and call hellolights and at the very least ensure that we can keep the 9% discount post shipping. Ghazanfar, the 250W MH kit is expensive with hello lights. They want $155 for it. Check out http://www.diyreef.com . They have it for $129. Shipping is normally around 8 bucks with them for that stuff. Even with the 9% discount, you will not come any better with hello lights. If you pick up a lamp as well - 250W 10K XM for 51 bucks when you purchase the kit, thats a cool deal. If you are still interested, i can find out if they can price match diyreef. I assume with the new additions, we should be over the $750 mark -krish
  20. Isn't concealing those 4 tubes difficult, esp if you don't have the tank drilled on the back , so the tubes gotta come over the top? Moreover, how random are the currents in comparison to a sea swirl.? -krish
  21. Chief, "if all else fails, you can get a bigger or taller rubbermaid container". - So we can use a float valve and use that as an auxillary doser to top off water . -krish [nana]
  22. Cool. I will give Scott a call today and confirm. I will talk to Luke as well. We should be close to keeping the base line $600 order intact and may be it will grow beyond that by tomorrow. -krish
  23. Chief, I will follow you advice of softening the rubber gasket with warm water. One other thought is about using food grade silicon grease to seal the gasket. It appears that placing the reactor in a small rubbermaid tray is the prudent thing, given that we need to refill kalk over time. -krish
  24. Chief, Problemo Number 2. Actually this is the first to happen. I left the weldon #3 in one of the tubes. The tubes were laying horizontal when i put it in the car to drive back home. It appears that inspite of the nozzle cover, the weldon leaked. I can see some minor cracks, that i can kind of feel from inside of the tube. From the outside, it is smooth. So it appears that it is more on the inside. What i am worried is the integrity of the tube. I have gone ahead and finished the unit, but if we can salvage a 10" long and 4" wide piece of acrylic off the broken tube you had, i can stick this on the outside of the area using #3 and that should go good. Again, sorry for the trouble. thanks krish
  25. Houston, We have a problemo Chief you are not retiring anytime soon. No relieving orders as yet Mine is leaking at the gasket. I have tighted it to the point where i broke one of the nylon screws. Normally, you would go around tightening the ones across, so that you torque the bolts and even it out. The water ran into the reactor wide open and the output is also wide open. I would assume that this is exactly the same pressure, if one were to let water drip into the reactor. I changed gaskets and that did not help. One of my gaskets needs a hole drilled. I will do that later. So basically, the reactor is still sitting in a rubbermaid thrash can for testing. There are 2 things i can think of a) Use brass screws and nuts. b) Use double gaskets. But boy, my Ca Reactor specs say that only do a 1/4 turn using screwdriver after hand tightening it. I have exceeded that on the Kalk reactor. Still Need help. thanks krish
