  3. really sorry to see this has happen.
  4. Join WAMAS, there are plenty of members with endless experience and excellent deals on used equipment...
  5. Need some ideas on detritus removal. I looking for simple and affective ideas. I'm not looking for marine inhabitance as a solution. Why? Matter is neither created nor destroyed. Therefore a marine critter eating detrius creates detritus. A simple and affective mechanical solution is desired without polluting the water column is desired. Thank you all in advance!
  6. It will be a year working on this tank 25July 2011. Nevertheless, I've been making progress. I have run water in the tank to check for leaks. Photos below layout my progress to date. I plan on being up in running within the next four weeks if all all goes well. undersump setup with closed loop, ocean motion, reeflo dart, ati bubble master skimmer 1. 2. 3. System hooded to drain underneath tank 4. Water mixing station in progress 5. uv and doser 6. power switch on homemade canopy
  7. I own and currently use a kent marine Nautilus te skimmer and I don't recommend it on anything above a 90 gallon. It doesn't skimmer enough for a 300 in my opinion and experience.
  8. I would definitely recommend a floor drain or a drain of some sort in the dedicated room. You are going to be cleaning that sump and you don't want to have carry bucket of water around. I rented a hammer drill fro home depot and brought some bags of concrete to patch it back up. My link
  9. I was given this protein skimmer and i would like a recommendation on a pump to use for this skimmer set up. I know this is an old skimmer but I figured I could use it to cure live rock, support hospital tank, or a small hospital tank.
  10. I have a used acrylic tank that I am setting up. I need to get rid of some scratches before I fill it up and I would like to know if anyone has any experience with Rainbow Lifegard Acrylic Scratch Removal Kit. I would like to know the best product with the least elbow grease required to to bring back the acrylic's clarity if possible.
  11. I am slowly make progress on my tank project. This photo is as of March 27, 2011 Canopy mounted to ceiling with door tracks. I still need to install lights and plumb tank SIDE VIEW
  12. I need some recommendations for online suppliers of plumbing equipment i.e. gate values, bulk heads, elbows, and flexiable tubing .I am look for good quality and reasonable prices. Most importantly, I am looking for a good selection of equipment to consider.
  13. Nice work.. My staining experience has my stand looking like crap but I did very well on my structural build. Man...it really looks nice if I had time and money I would reskin my stand. Hopefully I will do a better job on the canopy.
  14. If its already painted you can use primer and top coat. For new wood you want to use spar varnish first folled by priimer and top coat. The directions are on the can. It easy
  15. You can use a Rust-Oleum spar varnish, primer, and top coat for marine applications. This is what i did and they sell all the paint at both Lowes and Amazon. Here are a Amazon prices. You can get the top coat in other colors as well. This item: Rust-Oleum 207008 Marine Spar Varnish 1-Quart by Rustoleum $15.77 Rust-Oleum 206999 Marine Topside Paint, White, 1-Quart by Rustoleum $14.63 Rust-Oleum 207014 Marine Wood and Fiberglass Primer 1-Quart by Rustoleum $20.97
  16. I got my fingers crossed I hope the fish pulls through and fully recoperates
  17. I have a 90 gallon set up with 48 inch 4x130 Watt Current USA PowerCompact Extreme Orbit Fixture (discontinued). I'm thinking the lights may be a hard sell. So my question is. Does anyone know if i can use the ballast in the current set up to run some 48 in HO-T5 or VHO. Im upgrading to a 210 set up and I won't be using Power compact lighting. I don't want to trash the lights so I'm thinking I can salvage the ballast and probably change out the end caps for some HO T5s or something. Let me know what you all think.
  18. Thanks guys To provide a little more insight into what I "plan " on doing. I want to hard plumb and route the return and drain lines for the closed loop. All equipment will be placed under the stand: Skimmer, sump, refugium. Stand deminsions 66 in X 28 in x 36 in. Order of priorirty for the closed loop pump selection: 1. Price: 2. Reliability 3. wattage usage: 3. Flowrate (closed loop): 2500 +/- 500 gpm. 4. Noise level (Lower the better) I plan on going with a 4 way ocean motion. My tank has a hole cut in each corner of the tank for sequencial or opossed return. The drain line on the tank is near the center overflow. My holes are 1-1/2 diamter. Pitures are worth a thousand words. The tank as shown is upside down.
  19. O.k. I have taken into consideration of external pump but all I am asking for is recommendations on closed loop pumps. I am looking for a recommendations on external pumps that put out a high flow (2500 +), low decibel (if possible), and low wattage (want to keep amperage draw as low as possible). The rest I can achieve on my own. I am simply trying to save myself some research time.
  20. 1. Wouldn't the 1-1.5 in drain work if I split it to return to two closed loop pumps for return? I don't want to drill another drain. 2. I want a clean look in the tank and didnt want to use internal pumps.
  21. I am looking for a closed loop pump recommendation for by 210 tank set up. I would like to hear what wamas members recommend. I have 5-i.5 inch holes drilled in my tank by NAGA. I drain with 4 returns. I will be using an ocean motion to alter flow. I am looking for a low wattage quiet pump with a flow up over 2500 gph.
  22. If you are worried about the wood warping, you can use a spar varnish to prevent the wood for warping liken what they use on boat tops. I picked up some at up at Lowes. I'm painting the inside of cabinet with a glossy white and the exterior of the cabinet with a glossy clear spar varnish after I stain it. Rustoleum http://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-207008-Marine-Varnish-1-Quart/dp/B000C011CE (clear) used over stain http://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-206999-Marine-Topside-1-Quart/dp/B000BZTJT2 (gloss white)
