This is so cool! http://www.wimp.com/transparenteel/

Yes why? I have had one on the tank but recently noticed the UV bulb was not coming on. Before buying a new bulb (assuming that is the problem), I would love to hear the Pro's and Cons. It would be informative...Thanks, Dave

Previous advice all good...by all means add the moonlight's / LEDs. If you can't view the tank, what's the point of having it.

Best price I have seen is here... http://www.soslightbulbs.com/phoenix-14k-250w-aquarium-lamp.aspx Free shipping over $150.00... I have used them twice to buy 4 bulbs each time. First time I got one bad bulb and they shipped me a replacement immediately....

Good customer service...really? Hmmm...I emailed them a couple of questions/concerns/problems several days ago and have not heard back. I have two first generation MP40's with the following problems. 1) Rubber mat that goes on the dry side is disintegrating on both. Holes have worn through. There new online parts store does not carry them. 2) One of the units has started to slip down the outside of my tank which eventually causes the whole unit to disengage. The wet side falls on my corals...the dry side rattles against the glass until I hear it and fix it. It just started doing this about a month ago...I have no idea why...it happens about once a week. 3) The other unit is noisy as heck. I have it oscillating between high and low flow and its "whir/whine" is very noticeable and annoying. The second unit...the one that falls once a week is completely quiet on the same setting...go figure. 4) Programming instructions are not very clear. Perhaps they fixed this on second generation units. Overall I like them...and want to stay with them. I just wish there customer service would contact me...

How do you feel about filter socks?

I had the wrong ones....the Aquarium Filter Socks have seams. The FAQ says they are designed to use once....2 socks replaced twice a week gets expensive. hmmmm -

Thanks...the fact that these are seamless make them look promising. I will give them a try. -
I have had the same problem. From time to time outlets on the DC 8 appear to go bad. They start working again when I unplug the DC8 and plug it back in again. I have had to replace one DC8 in the last 5 years because outlets just stopped working...likely due to corrosion or something like that....it was in my sump room with high humidity and salt.

How do you feel about filter socks?

I find that my socks help filter out micro bubbles and "polish" the water for me. They also catch larger pieces of debris and lots of teeny tiny serpent stars. Here is my problem. Does anyone know where I can find good quality socks? I bought some from Johnny at BRK about two years ago and they have held up. Everything else I have bought since then has failed. The stitching gives way after a few uses. Can someone point me to good quality socks....please.... Thanks! -
Thanks for the input. Considering these: http://www.hamiltontechnology.com/item/Aruba-Sun-2---High-Output-T5-and-LED-Retrofit-Kits-1943 What do you think?

+1 for the Diamond Goby. My guy works all day every day from one end of my tank to the other. I have had mine for a couple of years now...

It's an experience everyone should try at least once and then make up your own mind whether you like or dislike the place. I have had great luck (3 Blue Assessors for $58.00 ea, all lived) and bad (Small Blue Hippo Tang priced at $88.00 in a "Pull the price out of my Ars" moment from one of the non-Germans). The set up (a series of green houses), tank stands (wood that looks as if it has weathered a 1000 Nor'Easters), filter systems (I have no idea if they have them), live rock ponds, gravel/dirt floors makes the trip to Roozen's at least one time worth it. They do get fish you never see anywhere else, although I wish they would get Gem Tangs again as I would expect their prices would be less than what I have seen them for over the Internet. You do look at the tanks and atmosphere and feel like you should quaranteen. Some of the tanks have detritus, expended rubble, snail shells 6 to 8 inches deep, and mystery stuff that is truely scary and makes you ask "What might be living down there." I have never seen a good coral selection the 3 - 4 times I have been there, but I just may have bad timing....JMHO...Dave

I have 50 in my 350 and all are fat and happy. Nitrates are near 0. Of the 50, 10 are Green Chromis and 10 are Pajama Cardinals.

I recently purchased 2 - 48" Reef Illumination MH/T5/LED light units for my Reef Tank. I have had them about 3 months now and have noticed better coral growth and color over the Aqua-Medic's they replaced. Plus - the LED's make the tank "pop" at night...really cool. My only complaint with the Reef Illumination units is the distance between the two MH fixtures in each unit is a bit more than most lights. On my tank, where they run end to end, this concentrates the brightest light at either end of the tank and directly in the middle where two MH's fixtures (one from each light) come together. I can definitely see where the coral is growing better in these three locations (left end, center and right end) over the middle left and middle right of the tank.... So...I think I would like to supplement the light in these two areas but don't know if I should go with T5's or LED's. I am thinking about two 36" 54 watt units (2 bulbs ea)...one for each side of the tank... What do you think? Any recommendations? I appreciate the help....
