  1. How does your controller make your daily life easier when taking care of your tanks? I'm trying to figure out whether the convenience would justify the cost. I've seen a lot of really cool stuff online where people post their temp and pH levels over time, etc. While that stuff is really cool, I'm interested in what kinds of things it would do for me so I can go back to my life as a couch potato :-)
  2. That's a really good point. That's why I wrote a kid's book on the subject trying to tie in the reefs with everything else. Book URL It's going to be republished soon with another publisher because I hate this one.
  3. That is a very sad prediction, and one echoed in lots of other places. I've often heard the complaints about how recreational diving can be destructive, but even in places that will throw you off the island for messing with the reefs, there is no stopping global warming unless we're all willing to make major changes in our lives. Even then, nature will do what she wants to. To me, this makes captive propagation even more important.
  4. I really love my little yashia gobis. They are so terribly cute :-). Only problem with them is that you don't see them all the time. I also have two purple firefish in my little 24 aquapod. I also decided to keep mostly softies in there. I really like the clean look of your tank. I wouldn't put a jawfish in there, however. You would need deeper sand bed for that, and be ready for them to change the landscape.
  5. You didn't promise me one, but I would be SO happy if you coul possibly put me at the end of the list if you have enough? I LOVE blue zoos. And don't worry, they would go in my happy stable aquapod 24.
  6. I have a handheld controller from Eutech Instruments I got from Marine Scene. I'm not sure if I trust it. It is reading 8.2 right now almost immediately after calibration, when the salifert tests and my other drip test agrees at a little over 8.3, plus it read a bit strange when I brought it to Sean to make sure I was calibrating it correctly. I am also thinking about a controller. should I start another thread for a controller discussion?
  7. THEN they cleaned out Fins and Feathers too. I barely got out of both places with my life. Course, the wallet was less intact that it was yesterday :-).
  8. Does sound like fun. Where are these bigwigs? Wakie wakie :-).
  9. From the album: Aquapod 24

What's this on his face? What can I do about it? Waaaa!
  10. I really like the idea of beginners and more advanced groups. It definitely would make it easier on beginners if we knew we'd have a fighting chance with some of the easier species.
  11. Thanks! Something annoyed the poor puffer and I came upon him on a night dive and took his picture. I don't recommend annoying a puffer in order to get pictures, and would never have done that myself.
  12. Now that sounds like fun.... What would we need to do?
  13. That's what I was referring to :-). How's that evil arrow crab by the way?
  14. What? Work for Playboy? :-) Naw, the models can't stay underwater long enough.
  15. Thank you dear. I love your pics too. We should do a calendar and get famous and get jobs in California and.... oh, never mind :-)
  16. Does anyone have approximate time at BRK and approximate time at F&F? I'd like to try to meet up with ya'll at either or both places, depending on several factors.
  17. Like this: heh heh
  18. From the album: Dive Pictures

    In one easy lesson...:-)
  19. Yeah, most of my models don't breathe air :-). Thanks for the compliments. Hubby and I do a lot of underwater stills. Some critters are cooperative, some aren't so much. Others are just "catch as catch can" :-) (now getting THAT picture in the wild was something else :-))
  20. Hey now! I've posted a bunch of photos here, you just haven't LOOKED :-) Even VIDEOS but nobody but Rav liked them. *sniff* That made me just plain BRISTLE....
  21. While we were hanging out at Fins and Feathers this evening, looking at the wonderful corals that Sean jealously guards like a mother hen, and playing with the other brightly colored chickens with large beaks that say "hello," there was this 143gadgets guy who gave me grief about not having posted more photos. So here are some random photos: Open brain coal kinda abstract surrealistic weird really close thing :-) What I want for the new 180 How to keep your tank clean

  23. I don't have one. I'd love to have one, but I'm too new to the hobby and my tank is too young to justify putting its life at risk. The guy in the article said he fed spectrum pellets he soaks in water for 10 minutes prior, and he feeds gel based frozen cubes, mysis, plankton, and he said that the regal loves squid. Maybe someday I'll have one. Perhaps in a year or so.
  24. That's what I was trying to say. I'd also LOVE to have a Regal, but I've seen too many reports on how they are so hard to keep, and it would break my heart to lose one.
  25. That article also said: --- Regal Angelfish (Pygoplites diacanthus) - This fish is truly my pride and joy, and is the centerpiece fish of this system. Every time these fish would come in directly from the Red Sea to the local retailer/wholesaler I would attempt to feed them, with most showing little or no interest in prepared foods. This notable specimen fed like no other I'd seen, and was a beauty among beauties in the group he was shipped with. I had already prepared this system by moving all of my zoanthids to a separate tank. While each individual angelfish has its own tendencies, regal angels are particularly known for their love of zoanthids. Sure enough, within hours of adding this beauty to the tank he had hunted down every remaining zoanthid, yet to this day continues to leave everything else in the tank alone. I've had him now for over six months and, knock on wood, he's staying plump and happy, eating straight from a turkey baster like the spoiled baby that he is. With this said, this species should without a doubt be left to only those aquarists who can satisfy its needs. ---- I'd be a bit leary of them in a new system, or if I had any zoos :-)
