Twinturbo August 9, 2020 August 9, 2020 Hey guys I’ve been cycling my tank for about 2.5/3 weeks now. I notice this yesterday when I went to go look at it. Can someone please tell me what this is and how can I deal with it? I have a Red Sea Nano Max 20 gal.
fellterrier August 9, 2020 August 9, 2020 Diatoms. Part of the process. No worries Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

fellterrier August 9, 2020 August 9, 2020 Few weeks. A couple of months. All tanks are different but it will go away like it was never there. Then you will get algae blooms! Lol! Then when things settle you will start to grow coralline algae. The good stuff. Be patient it’s like a fine wine....Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I just went and bought some hermit crabs only six of them. Will that hurt the tank? I have no fish or corals in the tank now and I have the light on a timer what is your suggestion?
fellterrier August 9, 2020 August 9, 2020 It won’t hurt it but they will starve so make sure you give them a little something to eat Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yachaq August 10, 2020 August 10, 2020 You can drop them a little bit of fish food from time to time. A little goes a long way.

fellterrier August 10, 2020 August 10, 2020 It will. Once all the silicates are exhausted Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Twinturbo August 10, 2020 Author August 10, 2020 30 minutes ago, fellterrier said: It will. Once all the silicates are exhausted Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk So while I’m cycling the tank should I have the light on or off and why?
Yachaq August 10, 2020 August 10, 2020 37 minutes ago, Twinturbo said: So will the Diatom eventually go away? Yes. As @fellterrier has mentioned, diatoms will go away when the silicates in the system are depleted and can not sustain the diatom population. 5 minutes ago, Twinturbo said: So while I’m cycling the tank should I have the light on or off and why? People do it both ways. I personally left the lights on to go through the "uglies" face as soon as possible. Since you have some CUC now, I would leave them on to not mess their day/night cycle IMO.
