Guest LoveReef June 1, 2004 June 1, 2004 i am looking for couple mangrove trees... i am thinking to have them put it in Aquaclear 300 filter. any body has it for sale?
Larry Grenier June 1, 2004 June 1, 2004 Don't they need a substrate to sink their roots into? Could that be done in an AC-300?
Guest LoveReef June 1, 2004 June 1, 2004 oh ..i should've explained my plan...sorry take out media from Aquaclear300..and put live sand in it.. and then plant in there..
Larry Grenier June 1, 2004 June 1, 2004 I believe that the seedlings are often suspended through a piece of styrofoam and don't really root until they mature a little. Seems like you'd have more success with a 10 gallon tank plummed to your setup. Space constraints?
Guest clownfish4 June 1, 2004 June 1, 2004 Mangroves get big a require strong lighting to stay healthy. I would not reccommend this.
flowerseller June 1, 2004 June 1, 2004 Mangrove shocker from a mangrove lover. They do great! I have them and love them. They need modest light, can be floated in styro as mentioned, can be placed in the idea above with modest light source above. If your looking for the so called benifit other than cool to have, forget it, you won't notice the benifit you may have read they provide. I paid $4.50 each from a supplier I deal with in the plant business. They usually have 2-4 leaves and grow slow. Some come curved and some straight. IME Chip
xeon June 2, 2004 June 2, 2004 Another source I have seen some mangroves available is from a guy in Hawaii who sells on E-bay. From memory he is pretty reasonable. The setup you mentioned with some "modest" lighting as Chip mentioned sounds good to me. You may also consider just growing some macros, that is unless you really want to grow some mangroves. BTW, Link to Seller in Hawaii for a dozen Red Mangroves $5.95 (buy it now) + $8 shipping
Guest LoveReef June 8, 2004 June 8, 2004 i went to Giant yesterday..i found that they sell red mangrove in pot for 14.99.. 4 mangroves in there....... FYI..
