Valeria July 14, 2006 July 14, 2006 (edited) WIth my last tank purchase I got a container of Combo Vital a mixture between Spectra vital and blackpowder and was thinking about using it but wanted to get some feedback. My understanding is that it contains supplements for the corals. I've done a search in the forum and found two members that used and one that has seen it used but this was back in 03, 04 and I think one in 05. Any comments? Experiences? Thanks Carla Edited July 14, 2006 by Valeria
rrubberbandman July 14, 2006 July 14, 2006 not to hijack the thread but i always wondered the same....as with any of the weiss products? are they snake oils? Bryan
chefthomasr July 14, 2006 July 14, 2006 I use the combo vital. Twice a week 6 teaspoons. It brings out lots of cool stuff from your live rock. We got all kinds of corals and things.

Bryan That is what the description lead me to believe. In the other hand seems like those few that have used it are happy with the results. I'll keep researching and see if there are any other responses. I use the combo vital. Twice a week 6 teaspoons. It brings out lots of cool stuff from your live rock. We got all kinds of corals and things. See that is the usual response I read from users. Chefthomars- How long have you used it? and has it had any effects on your parameters? Do the corals become dependend on this stuff- so if you skip a dose they don't look as great? Very interested in more details. Carla Edited July 14, 2006 by Valeria
chefthomasr July 17, 2006 July 17, 2006 I have used it since December. It hasn't seemed to effect any of my parameters. I don't think the corals become dependent. We aren't the best about dosing at the same time every time. I haven't seen any change in colors or anything if I miss a dosing. I also don't see any change in parameters if I miss a dose. I think it just mainly helps get things started faster then the corals feed off what you normally feed them. I know that's pretty vague so it probably doesn't help but its all I got.
NAGA July 17, 2006 July 17, 2006 I have used it for years. I am very pleased with the results. I bought two cases of it to restock. I did go through a period without in and noticed a difference with the corals. Particularly with polyp extension and overall how much the corals would open without it. I have a large system so I go through quite a bit of it to say the least. Here are a couple of pics:
flowerseller July 17, 2006 July 17, 2006 Looking good and based upon the pictures, I'd say that stuff works. Jeff, where would you squeeze my cup coral you wanted? It's 16"-18" around and growing.
Valeria July 18, 2006 Author July 18, 2006 Jeff, Your tank looks great! I'm guessing that Combo Vital is not a supplement to coral food correct? Carla
NAGA July 18, 2006 July 18, 2006 Valeria, it's only a part of what's going on in the tank. Truth is is that consistency with what goes on with the tank as far as maintenance and temperature control are keys to success. The combo vital I think is a part of it but, by no way do I think it's the primary reason for what you see. Chip, I've got no room now. In fact when I get a chance on getting a good size piece I often get disappointed with the reality that I can't get but a frag in between something. Would love to have you come up and see it. My door is pretty much open to anyone (with the exceptions of a few banned people from CMAS) that wants to come by and take a look. Jeff
chefthomasr July 18, 2006 July 18, 2006 Naga, Gorgeous!! How big is your tank? How much of the combovital do you add? How often? "it's only a part of what's going on in the tank" Do you target feed any of the corals with meaty foods? Or just feed the tank? Or do you mean with the maintenance and maintaining parameters?
