A.ocellaris April 13, 2018 Share April 13, 2018 Hey! Any recommendations to test low levels of Ammonia and Nitrates? I am currently using API and sometimes the colors do not match or it gives me the next reading on the line (eg. if Nitrates is > 1ppm, but less than 2ppm, API shows 5ppm.). Also, what water parameters are key for shrimps and snails?

AlanM April 13, 2018 Share April 13, 2018 I like Red Sea for nitrates and salifert for everything else. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I also like Red Sea Pro for nitrate. The new one has two powders and a liquid and seems to work pretty well and the disc makes it easy to match colors accurately. No idea about ammonia tests. I don't test for that. I use Salifert for Mg, Red Sea Pro for Ca, Hanna checker for alk, Hanna ULR phosphate checker for phosphate, and that's about it for me. I used to use Red Sea Pro for Mg, but I discovered it measures super high. Two batches of reagent in a row did the same thing. Plus the process of putting in one drop at a time and swirling for 15 sec between each drop is a pain. Salifert gives me values that are spot on what the salt manufacturer says they should be with newly mixed water.
