stevil June 27, 2006 June 27, 2006 My salinity has dropped to 1.022 and I'd like to get it back to 1.024 or so. Does anyone have a recommended ratio of salt to water to get it back? I have about 100 gallons total of water in my system. I'm currently using about 2.5 cups per 5 gallons for water changes which when tested comes in around 1.024-1.026.
Carl June 27, 2006 June 27, 2006 Why don't you just use salt water instead of fresh water for daily top-offs...that would get the salinity back up over time...

flowerseller June 27, 2006 June 27, 2006 I think that's the best approach and one that I take from time to time. You will also get the added benifit of trace element additions along the way. What do you use for SG testing? A refractometer is the best test as opposed to swing arm testers.

I have a mental "calibration" of what the numbers mean though. When my refractometer reads 1.025, my swing-arm reads 1.0225. Periodically I check with the refractometer just to make sure my swing arm hasn't drifted. To date, it has not. Maybe it's just mine, but my swing-arm is just consistently wrong. And consistency is all I care for since I have the conversion table.
