EricBrian May 31, 2006 May 31, 2006 The AC in my condo still isn't on and when I got home today, my tank was at 87.5 F! The toadstool is looking bad! :( The other corals don't look well but not so bad. Dang, I really hope they have the AC fixed by tomorrow.
YBeNormal May 31, 2006 May 31, 2006 You've probably done this already but make sure you've turned off all unecessary heat-producing devices such as pumps, lights, etc. Add some air stones to increase oxygen levels. Good luck!
steveoutlaw May 31, 2006 May 31, 2006 You can also use howard's cooling method.......put a sixpack of cold beer in the sump and drink it while you're cleaning the tank! Rob is right.....fans rock. You can get a couple of the little clip on fans and put one on the tank and one on the sump. Just out of curiosity, why isn't the AC on yet? I'd get that fixed ASAP. Good luck.
EricBrian May 31, 2006 Author May 31, 2006 Yes, I've had fans blowing over the water and it really does help. I turned them on full blast last night and there was a lot of evaporation but the temperature was down to 83 and the toadstool was looking much better. I've turned off all pumps except the one that breaks the water surface. We have central heating and cooling and there was a pipe break. That is why I don't have AC right now. But, according to the letter from the condo management office, it is supposed to come online today. Thanks for the suggestions. Eric
Caribbean Jake May 31, 2006 May 31, 2006 Eric I give you a hint on what I do when summer temperatures come around. I lower all my thermostats to 75 degrees, extend the timers controlling the fans over the sump pumps and main tanks to keep fans running at least one to two hours extra , and buy one extra fan at a local store for $7 as back up. It works for me and does not cost much. Jacob
Gatortailale May 31, 2006 May 31, 2006 leaving lights off for a few days should not be a problem, or just run them at night when you are home to check on it; maybe even just a few hours would be fine. Better than running them 8+ hours and cooking the tank. good luck
EricBrian May 31, 2006 Author May 31, 2006 When I came home today, I found all the corals a little happier. The toadstool looked a lot better. And, this is even though the temperature was 82F. To lower the temperature, I turned off all pumps (except the ones that break the water surface), turned off the lights and turned the fans on high. I am still not in the clear, though, since the AC was not turned on today. My dog didn't look too happy today either when I got home, so I took him to a friend's house where he can stay until the AC is turned on again. Thanks all for the input.
EricBrian June 9, 2006 Author June 9, 2006 The ac was finally repaired and turned on. The casualty list of the heat: two montipora frags I got from Jacob, bali slimer frag, one sexy shrimp Happy it isn't more. Again, thanks for all of the suggestions.
