larryag59 January 11, 2017 January 11, 2017 Seeing a brown substance starting to coat part of my aragonite substrate. Tank is only about three weeks old, still cycling. Started out with live aragonite, no live rock, one damsel. What is the brown substance?

ldballoon4 January 18, 2017 January 18, 2017 A normal occurrence in cycling a reef tank. It usually lasts for a short duration of time. Nothing to worry about.
larryag59 January 19, 2017 Author January 19, 2017 Do I need to do anything about it? I notice some of it is on the glass. I was concerned it might be algae instead. Do diatoms appear on the glass as well?
AlanM January 19, 2017 January 19, 2017 sure. I'd not worry. Even if they last for a while they aren't a big deal.
TonyB13 January 22, 2017 January 22, 2017 I am going through the same thing almost done, what I did was increase my water movement with power heads and once a day used the power head to blow off the rocks and then wipe down the glass and wash out my filter socks. Also stir up the sand Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
