WishNewFish September 16, 2016 September 16, 2016 (edited) Hi, I need your help ID'ing the exact coral if you know it. 1. I was told its brain coral, not sure what exactly this is since there are so many type of brain coral. Its around 2 inches diameter and has another small head on the side. 2. I bought this one as a golden neon green hammer, this doesn't branch like the regular neon green hammer and its extensions are all greenish golden hue in color. Glows bright second only to my trumpet coral. When its ready to multiple its base expands and creates another group of extensions. Sorry the pics appear out of orientation. Origami September 16, 2016 September 16, 2016 First could be an open brain coral (Trachyphyllia). The second looks to be Euphyllia (hammer coral). You'll need to look more carefully at the skeleton (not shown in your images) for a species identification. Refer then to this article. If it's the branching type, it's likely to be Euphyllia paraancora (judging from the tips of the tentacles). If the skeleton is meandering (aka meandering hammer coral), it's likely to be Euphyllia ancora.
gmerek2 September 17, 2016 September 17, 2016 Not sure on the first. Second I would guess branching Aussie " toxic green hammer. Only because it's common. I agree with Tom Origami though
davelin315 September 17, 2016 September 17, 2016 Yup, Tom is correct on both. Open brains can also be commonly referred to as meat corals. When retracted they have a fairly distinctive skeleton - picture a plate coral with some big teeth sticking up from the skeletal structure.
