Gadgets April 18, 2006 April 18, 2006 I have a 75 gallon SPS reef and I am interested in putting an angel in my reef. I thought about getting a regal, but it is very hard to get a small one from the red sea. I have done some reseach and decided to get an Imperator angel (juvenile stage). I know that my tank is small at the moment, but I will be upgrading soon to 180+ gallon tank in another year or so. I was wondering what u guys experiences with angels were and if you all had any tips. Thanks.
Guest Sachin April 18, 2006 April 18, 2006 I have one Imperator angel (juvenile stage) at current time it is in a 55 gallon, but as soon as it gets to be 3" he will go into 180 gallon, Let me knwo if you have questions but so far my angel has not picked on any coral however he rules the tank, he will pick on yellow tang, blue hippo, and copper butterfly They are all small at Juvenile stages, however I will start moving them into the 180 when I think they are ready to stand on their own with the big boys Sachin
Leishman April 18, 2006 April 18, 2006 It's dumb luck if you get a nipper or a non-nipper. So far I have had 4 large angels in my SPS tank and only one was a polyp muncher. I had to yank it the day it went in the tank (it was a Majestic). Good luck!
dzekunoi April 18, 2006 April 18, 2006 I have a juvenile Imperator in my 125 gal. She just started changing. She does not touch LPS, SPS, clams but sometimes pinches zoas and button polyps - when really hungry. If I feed fish every day and leave greens in the tank to munch on at the day time she is more happy with it. Alltogether corals are not natural food for angelfish. They feed on algea and sponges in nature. I love my Imperator - she is such a caracter! Made friends with cleaner shrimp and bossing Flame Angel sometimes. Comes to see what I have for her when I approach the tank.
Leishman April 18, 2006 April 18, 2006 Good point, I forgot to mention all my Zo's were gone within 12 hours of adding the Blue face
BeltwayBandit April 18, 2006 April 18, 2006 Good point, I forgot to mention all my Zo's were gone within 12 hours of adding the Blue face Really... can I borow it for about a week!
OUsnakebyte April 18, 2006 April 18, 2006 I think it would be worth waiting until you have that 180 up and running - just in case anything goes wrong with the move, water params, etc. There are plenty of emperors out there - I'd wait until you are good and established. Cheers Mike
Caribbean Jake April 18, 2006 April 18, 2006 agree with Mike. don't risk it. wait till the move and every parameter is in balance, then go for it.
Gadgets April 18, 2006 Author April 18, 2006 Thanks for all of the inspiration guys. I would wait until the 180+ I'd running, but I prefer to get a small one and watch it change over time. There is nothing, stopping the 180. I already have most of the equipment besides the Lumenarcs, tank, and stand. I am just not ready to set it up right now. I ordered the fish, so I will have it tomorrow. I got a medium sized juvenile. I can't wait to get him. What do you all feed? Anything special? Any other tips?
HowardofNOVA April 18, 2006 April 18, 2006 Chris, Was on Mikes bandwagon until I read you are that far along with your 180! Had a Flame that devasted my GSP, including the last of my Andrew Collections. GOSH I MISS MY TANK!
Gadgets April 19, 2006 Author April 19, 2006 Howard those GSP where beautiful! I forgot to mention that I will be getting a new skimmer as well. That has to be added to the list. It is going to be another DELTEC (AP702 most likely). Just need to call Johnny or Doug and make the order. Still deciding whether or not to go bigger than 180. Decisions.... Rik, your blue-face looks amazing. What do u feed it?

Home made food and Nori, Formula 1 and caviar as a treat

Gadgets April 19, 2006 Author April 19, 2006 I picked up the angel and he is beautiful! About 3.5 inches and great color. He is still acclimating and will be going in the tank soon. Thanks for all of your help !
Gadgets April 19, 2006 Author April 19, 2006 I finished the acclimation and I am back at the office. Wish me luck. I hope he's not a nipper.
dzekunoi April 19, 2006 April 19, 2006 I finished the acclimation and I am back at the office. Wish me luck. I hope he's not a nipper. Congrats! With your all SPS tank I'm pretty sure you'll be fine! SPS are not tasty for Angels!
Gadgets April 19, 2006 Author April 19, 2006 Thanks. Rik- I will get a pic for you tonight. When do u want me to take some pics of your tank? Have you re-aquascaped yet?
Leishman April 19, 2006 April 19, 2006 Thanks. Rik- I will get a pic for you tonight. When do u want me to take some pics of your tank? Have you re-aquascaped yet? Did it last week, only took 6 1/2 hours (got to bed just before 3am)
Gadgets April 19, 2006 Author April 19, 2006 Did it last week, only took 6 1/2 hours (got to bed just before 3am) No pics? Good news- He looks great, is picking at rocks, and is swimming around the tank. Bad news- He is breathing kind of hard (I think someone might of chased him around while I was gone) Will get pics later.
Gadgets April 24, 2006 Author April 24, 2006 OK. OK. OK. Only because u asked. I will have some tonight.
Leishman April 25, 2006 April 25, 2006 OK. OK. OK. Only because u asked. I will have some tonight. "Tonight" has come and gone. I'm starting to think this angel is your imaginary friend...
