Kevnjeep July 7, 2015 July 7, 2015 Finally found a resort with a reef right out back. We are staying at dreams puerta aventuras mexico. I only got in for about 20 mins but saw a few puffer fish, sting rays, hermit crabs, snails, and brain corals. I plan on snorkeling again tomorrow and will update. As of day one if your going to mexico this spot is the perfect place for any reefer

brad908 July 8, 2015 July 8, 2015 Go to Qamea in Fiji for your next trip. Best snorkeling and diving right off the shore.

Kevnjeep July 8, 2015 Author July 8, 2015 Tomorrow is akumul bay for the turtles and reef. Oops. So today another few hours snorkeling the resort beach and let me just start with saying it was the best yet. Started off slow just fish a few brains but than I went out farther than I have yet. Omg. Tons of stylopora, anemones, brains, sponge and wrasses.
Kevnjeep July 8, 2015 Author July 8, 2015 (edited) I was so surprised to see sps here. I just wish I had an underwater led light cause I'm sure it would be spectacular. Also there was a huge rock that was covered in sps brains and sponge looked just like a reef tank. Can't wait to get back In the water tomorrow;!!!!!!!! Also I forgot to add a little cool part of the resort. Through out the whole place there is a border in the tile that is all dead brains. Can't wait to post pictures Edited July 8, 2015 by Kevnjeep
Kevnjeep July 9, 2015 Author July 9, 2015 Day four turtle beach. Best yet. It is a beautiful cove with white sand and plenty of places to eat, rent snorkeling and scuba equipment, lockers towels and everything else you might need. Not to mention 100% free. But if you want to see the reef you have to pay 10$ and go with a guide due to disrespectful ppl destroying the reef. It more of a babysitter than anything. Saw 20-30 full grown sea turtles today. I'm guessing because of the large number of tourists they are extremely friendly. Swim a foot or two away from you like your not there. Obviously you can't touch them but getting that close in their natural habitat was awesome. Now for the reef. WOW!!!! Everything you can think of was on the reef. Brains, anemones, sea fan, stylopora, and a lot of stuff I didn't recognize. The fish today was the best yet. Tangs, parrot fish, pipe fish, moree eel, butterfly's, wrasses, And a ton more. I'm going back tomorrow and am planning on free diving down the beach away from the turtles. I have a ton of pictures and videos I will post when I get back. Stay tuned for more more of this amazing trip coming tomorrow!!!!!!!!
Kevnjeep July 11, 2015 Author July 11, 2015 Havent snorkeled for the past two days but we went on an amazing trip yesterday with a place called local quickies in puerta aventuras. If you ever get down here I seriously suggest getting a trip with them. We started late cause we were a little hung over but you start by going to akumal (turtle beach) and seeing the turtles and reef. Than we went to an open cenote and jump cliffs into a crystal clear fresh water lagoon, swam and snorkeled with fresh water fish. Than we t to a little home in the wall mexican restaurant for lunch (best food I've had) than went to a public beach in tulum. There was 3 other ppl there completely quite a little beach swing bar and the sand looked and felt just like fiji pink. Than we boarded their 80' x 40' catamaran. We sailed 4 hrs back with an open bar. Funnest crew I've ever met. While we sailed they threw in lines and I got a 4' female mahi mahi (Dorado or dolphin fish). On the way we picked up a local free diver named lobster Kevin. He had a bag full of lobster you could buy and get cooked when we got back. We took the crew out for dinner after and the mahi fed all 13 of us. We came as toursits and left with life long friends. This trip was one of the best days of my life. And I think it was only 130$ pp which if you've been to mexico is very cheap for an excursion especially one like this. Feel free to pm for contact info. This vactaion just keeps getting better. One of the crew manny is taking me snorkeling tomorrow to a different part of the reef in akumal tomorrow can't wait!!!
