michaelg March 25, 2004 March 25, 2004 Xeon is interested in an order pool for cyclopeeze. I am low (for all the trouble I went to last time- I didn't get much except krill due to quantities ordered and the fact I had stuff still in the freezer). Jemco is the company that we have been getting frozen cyclopeeze from. I can have it sent to me for distribution at Spring Meeting. They have some other interesting stuff as well that you may want to add on. http://www.jehmco.com/ I personally want 1/2 block of cyclopeeze and 1/4-1/3 block of mysis shrimp. 3 or more mix and match gets an additional discount. These are sold in large blocks- shipping is minimal (usually around $5 for the whole thing). I will have it delivered immediately before the meeting and keep it in my walk in freezer at lab until the meeting date.
Gatortailale March 25, 2004 March 25, 2004 I'm in for the mysis; 1/2 block. How is the size compared to frozen brine shrimp? Maybe 1/4 block cyclop if we need it to reach block quota
quazi March 25, 2004 March 25, 2004 I was suprised at the large size of the mysis. I thought they would be brine shrimp size, but there are large critters in the block I received from the last time. Also, the cyclop-ez was larger than expected. Not large, mind you, but I thought they would be smaller than baby brine. Do they need to thaw longer, or are they that large (in a small sense :p )
Lee Stearns March 25, 2004 March 25, 2004 I am in for 1/2 block of cyclopeeze and 1/2 block of Mysis anyone ever use the freeze dried cyclopeeze?
eddi March 25, 2004 March 25, 2004 I am in for 1/2 lb of Spirulina powder and 1/2 lb of Plankton powder. Thanks.
michaelg March 25, 2004 Author March 25, 2004 At a past meeting we looked at them under a microscope (When sally boggs came and spoke on clownfish breeding). They are much more broken up. They also need to be rehydrated (soaked in tank water). IMO the frozen is definately better. Jemco gave me a big bag of cyclopeeze flake. I will be happy to share it with people.
xeon March 25, 2004 March 25, 2004 I'm in for at least a 1/4 block of the Cyclopeeze. What was the consensus of the plankton last time around?
OUsnakebyte March 26, 2004 March 26, 2004 I am in for 1/2 block of cyclopeeze; don't need any mysis yet, still workin' on it. Thanks Mike! Cheers
michaelg March 26, 2004 Author March 26, 2004 Eddie- if you are getting the powders to use in food mix (which is what I do), you might want to get this as well- Natural Astaxanthin, 1 oz. (trial size) Color pigment $5.00 I picked some up last time, but still haven't found time to make a batch of food yet...
eddi March 26, 2004 March 26, 2004 Michael, That is the goal, yes. I have never used it, how long do you think a 1 oz trial size would last? Should I get the 4 oz instead?
michaelg March 26, 2004 Author March 26, 2004 Personally, I would try the one oz first to make sure you like it. I would think 1/2 oz is more than enough for a batch of food. I need to look at mine again to see how much an oz is...
michaelg April 1, 2004 Author April 1, 2004 Giving this a bump as I will be travelling next week... So far we have 2 blocks of cyclopeeze, 1 block (split 3 ways) of mysid shrimp. Eddi- will someone be picking up your stuff for you? The concensus on the plankton from talking to Jemco is that they are about the same size of mysid shrimp- maybe a little bigger, though smaller than the krill.
eddi April 1, 2004 April 1, 2004 Mike, No, I should be at the meeting. There is a chance, slim at best, I will have to go visit a college with my daughter, in that case Lee Stearns will pick up the food for me.
michaelg April 13, 2004 Author April 13, 2004 I need to place the order today to make sure it gets here in time. Any last requests?
Lee Stearns April 13, 2004 April 13, 2004 Michael, Natural Astaxanthin, 1 oz. (trial size) Color pigment $5.00 For 5 dollars you can add this to my order if you have not sent it in yet. Thanks Lee
michaelg April 13, 2004 Author April 13, 2004 Sending it now. I will post the final split up tomorrow with costs. Figure about $2 each for shipping? It won't be much extra. I will have it on Saturday. I found it much easier last time to bust it up in the parking lot (less mess to clean up ) I will bring some extra dry ice as well. Michael
michaelg April 13, 2004 Author April 13, 2004 May be up in the air. They are on vacation until tomorrow. I will call first thing in the am to see if they can get it out that day....
peacetypes April 13, 2004 April 13, 2004 Are these foods, used for other reasons besides raising babies, thats really the only message from the food discritptions that i was getting thanks Robert
michaelg April 14, 2004 Author April 14, 2004 Bob- things like frozen mysis shrimp are used for normal fish food- especially for "picky" eaters. cyclopeeze is small, but taken up by a lot of corals.. For those involved- order placed and should be here tomorrow- we can break it up at the meeting. For the home food brewers I think there will be some extra goodies for us to try (freebies!)
