flooddc February 2, 2015 February 2, 2015 (edited) After I built this wood stand, I realized I have a very limited spaces under the stand for my sumps. I like to open up the area underneath the 210 tank (removing center support). Would TWO 2x6 sandwiched together provide enough load support the 210 gallons for a 6'-7' span? Any suggestions/inputs are appreciated. Thank you, Chuck Edited February 2, 2015 by flooddc
flooddc February 3, 2015 Author February 3, 2015 that's not a stand, that's a bomb shelter! I supposed my family can bunkered there during a huricane

Shoelace February 3, 2015 February 3, 2015 I have no scientific or engineering basis for saying this, but a 6-7' unsupported span makes me nervous about bowing and uneven weight distribution.
Coral Hind February 3, 2015 February 3, 2015 I would not try it unless you use an engineered Glulam beam. Can you shift the post(s) over a couple of feet instead of removing completely so that you have a 4' span instead of the larger 6-7'? Is the issue of just setting the sumps in place? If so remove the leg and replace it once the sump is in but before you fill the tank.

I am thinking about moving the center post to the side and add another post to form a 5' span instead of the 6.5'. Then cut some 8" strips "plywood" and glue them together to form 2"x8" beam like for added span support. Thanks
