Now that I own my very own 29g Biocube, I plan on researching the various mods/upgrades I can make to make the system run as smoothly as possible.  In the mean time, I know many WAMAS members own 29g Biocubes, and I've seen a few in person as well.  What mods/upgrades have you done, or do you recommend?  Any tips or tricks to make your tank more enjoyable, work better, or automate the system?  (The first thing I'm planning on getting is an ATO, perhaps a Tunze Osmolator Nano.)  Also, do you think I should make the $180 investment up front on a new RO/DI unit, or just use 1g jugs of distilled water from wal-mart for topping off, and for mixing with salt in 5g buckets for water changes?  29g is the smallest tank I've owned (I had a 75g, 135g, and 150g before).

Here is my old tank thread http://wamas.org/forums/topic/39572-mikes-29gal-biocube/

Best mods:

tunze ato

tunze skimmer with stevie T cup

media rack from here http://www.mediabaskets.com/

heater in back chamber (remove false bottom)

MP10 is perfect for flow

DIY led's via rapidled.com

Two things I would NOT do are add a fuge in the back and drill it.  Not worth it.

I would keep it bare bottom if you don't mind the look.  Also, be mindful not to overstock.  I would do 3 small fish.

An rodi would be nice.  I didn't have one, but if you have a good spot for it I would get it.

Go for the distilled jugs. Honestly, when I just had one nano I used strictly distilled jugs and got saltwater from the lfs. Also, having an rodi filling a 5 gallon bucket isn't safe to have around toddlers unless it is well out of reach.

I honestly would invest in an RO/DI. There is a piece of mind not having to rely on a fish store if you need water. Take it fwiw. Bowie had some great ideas, I would heed that advice! Looking forward to your new build thread, here's to another 50,000 views! Put a tang in there, should do it ;)
