I noticed the flow from my return pump (RLSS Waveline DC4000) over the past couple of days was slower than normal. Took it apart, and sure enough there was a bunch of sand and gunk all over the magnet, etc. The bottom of the bucket was full of sand particles.

Cleaned it up, and it's running like new again. I can't believe how much more flow I am getting now. I am guessing a lot of the sand and gunk was from when I first set the tank up back in December, and it has been slowly deteriorating the pump's performance.

I did the same with my WP40 and WP25 recently. It went from a small wave to almost throwing water on the floor. It was only in for 6 months,  but I guess that's my threshold now.

Thanks for the reminder. I have to take my pumps out and give them a soak, it's been over 5 months. Did you just do a quick vinegar bath?

Didn't have any vinegar on hand. I just used RO water and a stiff brush which seemed to work just fine.

I set a reminder on Aquaplanner Pro to clean the return pump every 180 days from now on. Every 6 months for the Vortech, and reactor pumps.

I didn't think after 3 months my return pump would need it, but it does.

I used vinegar, but I have extra pumps to rotate and not miss a beat. I soak over night and those puppies come out looking brand new. That's the joy of the Jebao's, buy 5 for the price of one Vortech. Who cares if one breaks in 6 months because of cheap manufacturing?

I've been preaching this as well.

Cool. Looks like I'll be cleaning tonight.

i really like hydor's magi-kleen. works exactly 7.8 times better than vingear solution and affordable and will break up the harder coralline and other calcification spots with ease.

If you want to clean the return pump every three months, you better change that reminder to 90 days instead of 180 days. :-)

Dont forget to clean the probes.

Is this something I would be able to make heads or tails of by reading the instruction manual written in poor English?

That's what I meant to type - brain fart. :) It's in there on a 90 day reminder.

PH probe - full strength white vinegar bath for 5-10min. Use a soft brush, and be very gentle cleaning it. Rinse in RO water, and then re-calibrate for accuracy.

Temp Probe - same as pH probe except you don't need to recalibrate.

Just cleaned both of mine today. My temp probe had not been cleaned in months and it was starting to give a false reading.

One last note - doing this is going to throw off your graphs, but I'm not sure how to prevent that from happening. Not a big deal to me.
