tomtom2245 February 23, 2014 February 23, 2014 Anyone have any thoughts on the Red Sea vs the Hannah Checker for a phosphate test kit? Or any other good recommendations that don't involve hard to tell color cards.
YHSublime February 23, 2014 February 23, 2014 I've had no problems with the hc. No experience with Red Sea. The reagent for the checker is a pia, but other than that.
AlanM February 23, 2014 February 23, 2014 (edited) I have both. Checker gives much more fine grained information. Red sea test is very easy to use compared to checker, however. Edit: BTW, i have been hearing recently that people have been using alternate reagents for the checker to make it easier to use. Edited February 23, 2014 by AlanM
rtsusc83 February 24, 2014 February 24, 2014 HC ULR. It has been reliable for me and easy to use once I found a small funnel for me.
AlanM February 24, 2014 February 24, 2014 I do the trim two sides and fold into a spout method with the hanna checker reagent, and it works pretty well. I do the trim and fold before I start the test. The red sea pro is dead easy to use with just some droppers of liquid, though. I had a weird thought. I don't know what the Hanna checker actually measures with it's light inside, but I'm going to run some water with the checker and the reagent designed for it and then run some water with the checker and the red sea pro reagent a couple of times. If I get the repeatable numbers with the red sea pro reagent maybe it's possible to come up with a conversion chart to translate the number on the checker into ppm Phosphate as would have been measured if I was using the hanna reagents... Here is a post by the guy alleging that everyone in Italy uses different reagents for their hanna checker: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=22242378#post22242378 d2mini has trouble getting a good measurement with his.
tomtom2245 February 24, 2014 Author February 24, 2014 Thanks guys. I'm going to give the Red Sea one a try for now. I have their Alk/Cal/Mg kit and love it! Need something a little easier to use for P04 other than the crappy API kit.
jacobB89 February 24, 2014 February 24, 2014 i use the hannah checker love this thing i just pour the the powder onto the yellow card and bend it and pour it into the vial works well and easy.
